Lon, you posted this: My kitty and I watched the opening ceremonies last night and will watch off and on all day Saturday because there is nothing else to do today here in assisted living. What will you be doing today? In red above is what I meant. You stated this..........."because there is nothing else to do today here in assisted living". That is why I asked you.
If they were held in Millinocket, I probably wouldn't go, but I would complain about the traffic. Other than bits and pieces that were replayed elsewhere, I have never intentionally watched the Olympics.
I've always enjoyed the Olympics, but like everything else, this, too, has been ruined by idiots whose IQs are smaller than their shoe size.
Are SoC members surprised the 2020 (2021) OLYMPICS actually went ahead given the world wide Covid pandemic. The fact it has is a tribute to all concerned. America always send a strong team to the largest of all sporting events and is usually ranked among the top 5 medal winners while Australia has taken our second largest squad after Sydney 2000. My nation always has trouble keeping up with the stronger US, except in the pool, but there is always a good healthy rivalry with our traditional enemy the UK across a broad range of sports. Comments.
There is a new team at Tokyo..ROC.. simply it stands for the Russian Olympic Committee, and it is essentially a loophole that allows Russian athletes to compete in the Olympics while their country is banned from the Games because of its doping scandal. There are some specific rules the ROC has to follow to make clear it is not representing the country of Russia. Under the ban, Russian athletes can still play as neutral athletes -- which means they do not technically represent a specific country -- if they can prove they had no link to the doping scandal. More than 300 athletes are doing that at Tokyo. The team still bears the national colors of white, blue and red, and features athletes who have represented Russia in previous Olympics. Kinda baffling this. But if the 300 athletes are clean then no reason why they cant compete. But indirectly every medal these ROC athletes win is for the Russian Federation and further glory and propaganda for Putin and the Kremlin. @Terence Eames.
I know you will comment Terence but appears SoC members are not the least interested in the world's premier sporting event.
@Craig Wilson I disagree, but not with forum members' interests, but rather the statement that the Olympics represent the world's premier sporting event. I view the Olympics as the world's premier commercialized advertising opportunity...... Frank
Craig, from what I have read, you are correct about people not being interested in the Olympics. Not just here but people in general. I read somewhere that fewer people than ever watched the opening. I think only a bout a third of the number that watched the opening of the last one. I suppose it might be because there are so many things to be interested in nowadays.
