On the other hand, cat people tend to be more introverted, sensitive and neurotic. But cat people beat dog people in one surprising area: Cat lovers actually tend to be more open to new experiences! I don't fall on either side. I've had both cats and dogs my whole life and love them both. Who here is a dog person and who is a cat person and what have you noticed about the differences between them? I'm speaking of cat people and dog people - not cats and dogs.
I'm like you...I like them both. I can understand some people not liking dogs because of a traumatic experience, but what has a cat ever done to anyone? (well, I had an attack cat, but that's a different story)
My Barney is amazingly intelligent. He's crying at me to eat and I tell him I'll feed him in 15 minutes. He wanders out of the room. About 15 minutes later he's back crying for his food. When I tell him to wait 5 minutes, he's back in five. It's a little spooky. He pouts a lot. If I raise my voice over his insistent crying for food and tell him I'll feed him later, he shuts up and goes away. If later I go tell him to come and eat he acts like he's not interested. I've never been manipulated like that by a dog.
I guess I'm a dog person. Altho I don't have a dog right now, I do like pets that respond when I call or talk to them. Dogs are more interactive and interested in pleasing their owners, and I like two legged and four legged critters that are eager to please me, show a sense of humor, will fetch on command, and will bring brandy if I'm lost in the cold. Cats, though, have better boundaries, and there's nothing better than a cat sitting on your chest, purring, when you feel melancholic.
Yeah, gotta love em but cats think they own the place, you included. Dogs are more like children. I'm ready for my first therapy session. Do you charge a lot? I could pay you about six dollars an hour. I know that's about 1% of what you like to make, but each of my multiple personalities could pay you separately and it could add up.
It's partly true and it's partly not. In one sense, dogs will slobber all over you in a way that is completely devoid of self-respect. But a dog will lay on the floor as you sleep on the bed...try making a cat do that. A dog might ask for attention or wait to be called up on the couch, while a cat will just jump on your lap. Regarding your therapy analogy... -A dog will ask "What do you want me to be?" -A cat will judge the therapist.

I have always had cats and dogs,till about 15 yr.ago when I becamaw allergic to both but more so cats .Dogs seem more useful but I sure do miss my cats..
I had a dog and a cat that lived to be in their early 20s. I got them while doing animal rescue. The dog was a sweetheart...she loved everyone. The cat was violent, and has chased adult friends out of my house and still tried to break through the screen door as they stood outside holding it shut so the cat could not continue the assault out in the driveway. If a car door slammed at 2AM, the dog would sleep through it while the cat would sit up and growl. I miss Snowy.
