@Beth Gallagher My first time ever in a hospital, I was 77 years old, will be two years ago come this Thanksgiving. ER messed around, sent me for an ultrasound and CT scan, then X-rays right in the ER room. This was all for a slight fever of about 100` which hung on for 3 weeks. They finally admitted me, after a whole afternoon in that room. Was in there 4 days, no definitive diagnosis. Possible sinus infection, they sent me home with Cipro. Couple more days, fever still hanging on, no other symptoms, I went to my PCP again, asked him why not an alternative antibiotic, maybe Bactrim? He agreed. BINGO. Fever subsided the next day. Frank
We really do have to be our own advocates when it comes to health care, Frank. Good job! And how are you feeling these days?
You needed to highlight tacky. Sad all the profiteers make money off of others' misery with Chinese-made junk. One big cancer center I went to had a huge gift shop. Pink mugs with saying like "my mother survived breast cancer." Jewelry, hats, sports bras, and tights, etc. When the gal asked if she could help, I sad, "yes I am looking for a t-shirt for my fake grandniece that says, 'My Fake Great Auntie whipped cancers ass' and a bikini just for me like the young gals wear, a pink one with one of those high neck full-coverage tops and a bottom that covers precious little so it will accent my mangled belly button and the four other scars, especially the two dangerously close to my lady business."
I'm not sure which hospital but I doubt she'd go all the way to Grady. She's in the Canton/Woodstock area north of ATL.
Thanks for sharing your life with us Beth ,it is interesting and entertaining. Did I say you have a way with words ?
@Beth Gallagher Not too bad, could be worse. Not long ago, the dialysis requirements seemed overwhelming, but I've learned to accept them, especially as the other issues he heightened. Severe neck pain, cervical compression of nerves going to hands, which are mostly numb and dead. If my wife is not available, I button my shirt using small side-cutter pliers, pulling each button through it's hole. Eating well, but too much, breathing normally, waste disposal pretty normal. Could complain more than I do, but try not to. Frank
Today I had a followup appointment with the internal medicine doctor to check my heart rate and blood pressure results. I was told that it would take "a while" for the full benefit of the beta blocker and my pulse is still elevated but not scary anymore. The doctor ordered a kidney function test and we were both happy to see that my kidney function has returned to normal... same as it was last January before I started chemo. Woo hoo!! All in all, it was a nice visit and I'm happy that things are progressing in a positive manner. I might start some easy bouncing on my rebounder or riding my exercise bike a bit each day.
