My mantis is still on that plant this morning. I've started to actually read the lengthy manual for my camera, and used the Macro mode to take this pic. It came out much nicer than the others:
Just be aware that they eat beneficials as well as pests, including lady bugs (ladybird beetles), lacewings, and even honeybees if they can catch them.
I guess that can be a downside if you overpopulate your garden with them. As with everything in Nature, there's a balance. And there's not much that will control a population of adult mantids. From what I read, most anything that will eat a small mantid will steer clear of the adult ones.
