No, they change drivers and yes, sometimes buses too. When there’s a driver change it gives them a chance to clean the bus and dump the yuk and normally gives the riders time to stretch out, eat, smoke or whatever.

Without beating the irrelevant to death...how much travel time would a passenger get in a day in a cross-country trip? Just the 10 hours?

The traveler is on the bus for 24 hours a day, with short breaks here and there when the bus stops to pick up or let off passengers. Sometimes, they just stop to give people.a chance to eat and use the bathroom (properly).

When we traveled out from Virginia to Idaho, it took us around 3 days, if I remember right. I enjoy traveling, and liked seeing the country as we traveled across the US; but I was exhausted and ready to be off of the bus when we made it to Idaho. I would like to make another cross-country trip like that; but I would much prefer to do it on the train and not a bus.

THAT'S what I wondered. So no overnight motels or anything like that? That sounds horribly tiresome, not much better than being trapped on an international flight.

A couple of years ago Yvonne was telling me about a kind of travel deal Amtrak offers. You buy a ticket from a to z but you can get off at any time, let’s just say at point b and spend a day or two and then catch the next train to point c in the trip and so forth. In other words a person could spend a couple of weeks or so traveling from a to z and just buy the single ticket.

THAT is pretty slick. You could plan a real nice trip around that.
