I've wanted to get involved in this. I live in the ideal place...out in farm country. I could have put one to good use a few years ago. A neighbor's black Angus got loose and he was trying to figure out where they got off to.
I have a Skydio 2 that I use as an aerial camera. Fortunately, it is smart enough not to run into things so having "enough room" isn't an issue. Disclaimer: I've no affiliation with or interest in Skydio but think it's a really great drone.for content creation.
Thank you for the welcome. Being older than dirt, I find using a drone for aerial photography helps keep the brain active and wonder how may other seniors out are drone flyers or photographers. IMHO, this thread, like many seniors I know, needs more life.
@John West I agree, John, maybe you are the new life we need! I am not a drone enthusiast myself, just thought the huge facility shown in Post #1, would be of interest to our members. I guess that flying drones has replaced the flying of model airplanes. It seems all ages have an interest in drones, but among some older adults, there is a concern about their misuse. Hope you hang around and check out other interesting topics and threads. Thanks again for joining!
I am sort of excited to show this to hubby. He has lost a lot of interest in the outside world. Maybe I know what to get him for Christmas now. Thanks John!
Other than cost, I can think of no reason why seniors can't or shouldn't get into drone photography. It doesn't take much work or exertion and it isn't all that hard to learn. In the case of the drone I use, I could teach anyone of you to fly it in less than a half hour. Being self-taught, I got pretty comfortable flying in with about an hour of practice. I purchased a particular model drone based on its intelligence and being able to not run into things. The video below explains. All that said, I don't use the drone to follow me around on my motorcycle taking adventure video selfies. Instead, I use it as an aerial camera, taking advantage of its intelligence to not run into things.
Below is one example of my aerial photography that was used in a world-wide motorcycle adventure forum to illustrate a particular road to ride. The picture is of a farmstead along the Deerfield River in the Hoosac/Greeen Mountain range. I post this picture in the hopes that more seniors will find their way to this great hobby. Being able to ride and take these pictures is the stuff of dreams. You don't need a motorcycle to do this.
