When was the last time for you?

Last time for us was Dec. 2006 during the National Finals Rodeo. We flew in from Colorado and my wife's family drove in from So. California. It's been 15 years since we've been there and a whole lot has changed. We already have our flight, car and hotel reservations already made for this coming December for the National Finals Rodeo again. My wife's older sister will be driving in from So. California. Eating buffet breakfast (that is back open), going to the Cowboy Christmas at Convention Center, watching the nightly rodeo in a lounge (at the Mirage) and looking at all of the Christmas decor Vegas puts up. During the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas, literally everything is rodeo/cowboy/cowgirl related. Vegas really, really turns out for this event!

Very, very good chance this will be our last Vegas trip.

My SIL (wife's sister) isn't really a "Vegas" type at all. She doesn't gamble or drink and never has. She is just going to be there so she can see her one younger sister (my wife). In fact, part of the time we are there, she will be at her Time Share in the pool. We will be there for the rodeo, drink, gamble, eat and look at the Christmas decor. And, take plenty of photos and video.

Geez, I thought nearly everyone had been there! Many years ago, I sought to leave Crook County, Illinois very badly, aware of the graft and crime rampant there (I was born and raised there). I needed a source of sustenance, so felt I could apply my mechanical and electrical skills in taking over a going business: automotive service station. My nephew, just out of the Marine Corps, went in with me. We loved the Southwest, so scoured Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Las Vegas seeking one which fit. Vegas had it.

Back then, Nevada was the least-populated state, a fact I greatly liked. The cost of living in Vegas was very attractive; we ate wonderful dinners for only a few dollars. The folks running the gambling meccas knew full-well that keeping people well-fed was one way to encourage them to "throw away" their money.

Vegas undeniably changed over the years. Still, my memories are sweet ones.

I went there on a group tour in the 80's. It was 108 degrees when we got off the plane. Hoping it would cool at night, I was disappointed. Saw some topless show and lost $10 on the slots in less time than it took to type this. The food was good and inexpensive.

I’ve been working since I was 16 years old and saved my hard earned money. I was pretty smart and went to college at USC. I worked part time during school terms and summers off. Living in Los Angeles there were plenty of fun things to do on days off. When I became a teacher then middle school principal, I worked full time and summers. As time went on I did have opportunities to visit Las Vegas, but the place never really appealed to me. Who knows maybe after the pandemic is finally over, I’ll take that trip.

I've flown through Vegas, but never left the airport (which was chock-full of slot machines.)

The only gambling I enjoy is going to the horse track, and even they there was only one I really enjoyed due to its country setting. I really don't know much about the rules of most casino games. I never thought of checking out who was playing the nightclubs. It might have been a cheap weekend...I think SouthWest Air offered flights to Vegas out of DC for under $100.

It was a far more likable place years ago than now. When I moved there in 1972, the mountains surrounding the valley were often snow-covered, visible from nearly everywhere. Today the air is foul.......

I'll just quote this for its universal applicability.
