    1. No major retail store encourages heroism.
    2. Very seldom does a security guard at a major retail store carry a firearm.
    3. Everything in any major retail store is insured. If anything goes up it’s the insurance that goes up first.
    4. I have told every employee that I have ever had to give whomever what they want whether it’s shoplifting or armed robbery. Again, stuff is insured, a life is not.
    5. Every major retail store has several cameras that are specifically put in place to (a) make people feel uneasy about shoplifting and (b) help the law identify someone should anyone walk out the door with products they didn’t buy or someone wielding a weapon.

In other words, it ain’t none of my business unless I can help identify a bad guy.

A "Good Samaritan", carrying, won't necessarily think "unsafe".

IOW, members, how can society be "ok" with shoplifters stealing things from stores in broad daylight???

A Good Samaritan carrying had best be a Well Trained Good Samaritan carrying otherwise said Samaritan will be doing his good works in prison.

And, not one person who has his head on straight thinks it is Okay with shoplifters but then again, with the onslaught of people who take what they want and burn businesses down in Oregon coupled with Oregon’s lousy WOKE laws, any person with their head on straight wouldn’t have a business in Oregon.

Without doing the actual research, I would guess that's the case in most states. People who carry a weapon in order to be "macho" are people who probably shouldn't be carrying a weapon. They have the right to do so, but they are going to find themselves in trouble.

In some places, such as California (I don't know if it's the whole state or just some jurisdictions), shoplifters aren't even prosecuted criminally.

You mean "interpret", but responsible gun owners know that they should not pull a weapon that they are not prepared to use.

My hometown but I left it decades ago soon as you couldn't tell the leadership from the other criminals.

I’m not at all sure which criminals you’re alluding to but I do recall when the “Red Dogs” were formed. I was working at the newly built rescue mission in Techwood and quite frankly, I was amazed at how much they could get away with.
I mean, when they came through they’d do strip searches in the middle of the sidewalk. The female Dogs would do the gals and the men would do the men in full view of everyone.
When they arrested someone it was well known that before the cuffs went on either the face of the suspect would meet the pavement or be met with a love tap from an officer’s weighted gloves.

For a time, they were the only law enforcement that would go into Techwood and the only reason this white guy was tolerated is because among other duties I also ran the kitchen that fed the streets.
And to stay on topic, just down the street from the mission there was a Korean grocery on the corner and across the street from that was a restaurant.
No one and I mean NO ONE would dare take anything that they didn’t pay for at those establishments. If the owners or the help didn’t kill a bad guy then the other bad guys on the street would.

Still, every night the gun shots rang out and the funny thing is that the Atlanta Journal never printed anything about the wounded or dead coming out of Techwood.

Techwood I knew well. Varsity, Chastain Park concerts in the 70s ARS played there a few times.Good times.
Not much shoplifting back then either crime was low.

I just did a search and cannot find anything on the web to back my statement up. I am sure I recall this happening some years ago (10 or so), because the city was struggling to find applicants (they still are) but I can find no info to support that statement.

I’m sure you wouldn’t be surprised to read that I’ve done the same thing numerous times over the last few years. Stuff I knew I read or heard from the horse’s mouth is on the web one second and gone the next.

The city could have had it scrubbed from the Internet.

Small areas where the Varsity is located were still pleasant in the mid 80’s but some areas got real dangerous especially around the area where all the labor halls were located. (around Bolton Rd where the mission is also located)

I haven’t been back there in years and I do imagine after the Olympics that things have smoothed over a bit.
I was told though that during the Olympics that the Red Dogs were going strong.

My hort class planted 240,000 plants for the olympics.Only took one semester then we moved back to Florida. My teacher got in trouble for bringing us in during a storm.Assistant dean told him they needed those plants he refused to send us outside. They got the plants on time but he glos his job.The cclass gave him a great going away party and we played ' To Sir With Love' for him we all cried he had tears in his eyes.
We also won the Horticulture Olympics that year. Beat California in our little backwoods tech school.
