I admit that I've not really noticed the word Woke being used in its current sense until fairly recently, and then mostly as a word hurled at the 'left' by Fox News commentators, or else batted around by late night show comedians in mockery of Fox News. But now that I think of it, it seems that Woke describes the mindset of people who have fallen into the trap of 'identity politics', and who have put all their emotion into the 'self' they adhere to, rather than looking at the actual issues in a rational way. On the left side you'll see a person who 'identifies' as non-binary, and who gets offended when the pronoun they prefer is not used. And then on the right side you'll see a guy who 'identifies' as a resister to government control, and who's offended by the idea of any gun control whatsoever. Whenever 'personal identity' hardens into a political stance, there's gonna be more uncontrolled emotion than civil communication, and that's when the dumpsters start burning!
