Oh Happy Days, How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace and without a doubt, Hallelujah. Went to a church Christmas Concert in Jacksonville, FL and the choir started singing, as their last song, Hallelujah. A Black lady stepped out of the choir and sang her heart out. Simply great. Absolutely!
Oh come angel band...come and around me stand.. bear me away on your snowy white wings to my immortal home... Ralph Stanley
Swing Low Sweet Chariot My dad sang it and played it on his harmonica. He learned it from sharecroppers when he picked cotton with them during the depression.
As a matter of reflection Lon, if you have a favorite piece of classical music up through the romanticist era, then you do indeed probably have a favorite hymn. For me, O Holy Night is probably my favorite but The Old Rugged Cross and Blessed Assurance are right up there with it. My grandmother and grandfather used to sing the later two together behind the pulpit and when grandpa had his radio show.
My favorite Christian song is “In Christ Alone”, it always brings tears to my eyes, yes I am a crier so there…
I've never been in a service that used contemporary songs, and I don't listen to contemporary hymns. I've just never been interested for some reason. Regarding being a crier: if you start, I'll join you
I usually do not like contemporary Christian songs but this one is just wonderful, take a listen you might like it…
I've been a gospel music fan as long as I can remember. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, there are so many. I do think the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra can make any song sound great. I like the old songs and many of the new ones. But as I age, I think I like this old one better and better, "Take My hand, Precious Lord."
