Today Sweden's Prime Minister is hosting the Malmö International Forum on Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism in the south Swedish city of Malmö in the presence of Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and many foreign dignitaries. The title of the conference is self explanatory. Sadly Antisemitism is growing in many countries including Sweden and the witnesses of the Holocaust are becoming fewer and fewer with the passing years. With so many international dignitaries in Malmö for the conference, security procedures have been rigorous. Streets surrounding the locale have been closed to traffic, traffic on routes to and from the airport has been restricted. There is an enormous police and military presence with snipers place on strategic fooftops. Streets around the Malmö synagogue have been closed, drain covers have been sealed and no public transport buses are running.
@Bibbi Wright when Europe allowed the entry of large numbers of Muslim migrants, antisemitism was sure to follow. It has been an undercurrent in most of that continent for centuries, but bringing in the migrants brings it to the surface, especially in France with a large Muslim population. I am glad to see it discussed, as I don't like to see intolerance of any kind of religion or ethnic group.
Me either. It baffles me that 'religious' people can be so intolerant. For anyone traveling to Washington DC, I highly recommend taking a day to go through the Holocaust Museum. It is an unforgettable experience.
