Thanks for posting it @John Brunner. It was something I knew from my previous life, but I hadn't "googled" it. There was a problem of contamination in the original Salk vaccine in the 50s when it was introduced. They grew the virus in Rhesus monkeys, but the government prohibited the importation of more monkeys, so the monkeys were "recycled" from other research and some had diseases that contaminated the virus used to make the vaccine. I caused disease problems and I believe it killed a few people, but the risk was not discovered until after the fact. The Salk vaccine was a killed virus vaccine and the Sabin was an attenuated virus vaccine similar to the original rabies vaccine except that was given by injection. People are so anxious to debunk what they think are vaccine conspiracies that they don't realize that real vaccine risks exist. That is why Congress gave the vaccine manufacturers immunity from prosecution and civil suit. The lawsuits over damages caused by the vaccines would have put the manufacturers of vaccines out of business.

I'm not Martin, but polio was always associated with water contact and warm weather. Presumably, the two went together. I don't know if there was any validity to the connection. It is now thought that FDR actually never had polio, but suffered from lingering Guillain-Barre and was misdiagnosed. Wouldn't it be ironic if it was eventually found that many of the polio cases were actually G-B syndrome caused by the vaccines that were growing in popularity. Now I'm not being a conspiracy theorist here, but …look it up.

I feel sorry for the aninaas but guess we humans go through it too in research labs. My brother sure went thru pur hell in one in Augusta Georgia fighting throat cancer. I'm sure it is helpful at times.
