My knowledge is quite good but I will use the puter for simple tasks since I am retired. I used my Dell for both purposes.

Another vote for Dell, but can't give a good reason.

If you don't count a Commodore 64 :), my first desktop pc was a Compaq. Then an HP. Then 3 Dells in a row. I liked the metal case, and just never switched.

One of the other Dells still works, but does not have a fast enough processer or adequate memory for today's use. My mother used it for years just to play solitaire.

The 3rd is still sitting in a corner. I always dreamed of building my own from scratch one day using the old case. I think it's beyond my paygrade.

The problem with the HMDI port is the only one I ever had with my Dell; the inclination to get a Lenovo is its size.

I mentioned previously that I now have an ASUS laptop, which I bought new in September 2019. Ongoing problems with it:

    - The sound is a joke. It is unusable as is, can barely hear it, I have to use a Bluetooth speaker. Sound driver is updated, etc.

    - I tried pairing two other speakers to it, but it doesn't "see" them.

    - From time to time the fan runs wide open, and will sometimes cycle fast-slow several times in a row even when the machine is idle. Then it won't do it for weeks. I think it has something to do with Windows updates but have never pinned it down. I'm done wasting time investigating it.

    - Last week, suddenly, the cursor got a mind of its own and went wild. Machine was unusable. Reboot, no change. A couple days went by and it's fine, I'm posting from it now.

I don't necessarily blame all this on ASUS, some/most of the problems could well be with Windows.

However, when the cursor went wild last week, I dug my previous laptop out (HP) got it updated, thinking I would need to use it but I don't, at this time anyway. However, one of the first things I did was go to the Dell site and check out their laptops. They cost more than most others, but I'm going back to it when the time comes.

That is one of the reasons that I love my iPad so much ! I am nearsighted, and had to practically put my nose on the monitor screen when I was trying to look at something small.
Making the screen larger was doable, but a nuisance to do. With my iPad, I just wiggle my fingers on the screen and magnify whatever I want to see closely to the right size to see it plainly. So easy !
Plus, since I sometimes hold the iPad like a book, it is easy to see things and watch movies, because it is closer to my face. I seldom even look at the television, unless we have tornado warnings, and I want to hear what the weather reporter is saying.
With the external keyboard, my ipad is like a 13” laptop for all intents and purposes, at least for me. Plus , it syncs with my phone, so pictures are automatically transferred to my iPad when I take them with the camera on the iPhone.

That's not good for your eyes. <--
Much better would be a much larger monitor screen that's farther away from your eyes.

Trust me, is large enough. BTW I could always get a 75" one like my TV
