Actually I have two questions. First, when the email account I had the longest was hacked, a microsoft rep. checked and said some activity clearly was not mine, but that they couldn't return the account to me. One of their reps said he disabled the account, another said it couldn't be disabled remotely, and since I couldn't access it I found it's still active and the hacker still has use of it. Is there any way for me to get it back or have it removed entirely? Second, is there any place to get assistance? Two different hackers got into one of my online job accounts, and I was able to copy down their email addresses; in one instance I even took a screen shot. But I can't find anyone anywhere who will follow up on it.
I can't help, but can you share who the email account was with and what do you think led up to the hacking? Was your password weak or didn't you change it periodically? Yahoo messaged me once that there was suspicious activity with my account coming from India and was encouraged to get a new password.
I'm not sure what you mean by who it was with, but the Hotmail account I had was hacked twice, and I don't believe they were the same person. When my Outlook account was hacked, I at least managed to get it closed. In the first instance, I believe I made a mistake by trying to download what I thought was an antivirus program I found in a search engine, but probably was not legitimate. The hacker's "M.O." was unusual- he/she/they was in both my email account and online job account without my knowledge when I was using both accounts, and I knew nothing about it til I didn't get paid one week, checked my online job profile and found hacker had replaced my Paypal info with his and stole my pay. Yet nothing else in either account was changed. The second time was much different. I received text saying my password had been changed, and another saying my TSV phone number had been deleted. So I had no way to get back in. Fortunately though I found hacker's info in my online job account and was able to put mine back in. But this occurred after I learned and began to use good security precautions. Also, I had experiences with Yahoo like you related, but had my accounts deleted and hadn't used them for anything important anyway. That 'report cybercrime' website was useless- no responses. All I could find locally was one agency with one agent, mainly dealing with cybercrimes against children.
