I also like seeing "familiar faces" when I come to the forum, but having new posters always livens things up a bit. Plus we are all getting older so there will come a time that the forum needs new people to keep it going.

I disagree that old threads should be closed and archived; there's a lot of interesting stuff to be found in the older threads. I used to bump them for additional comments as often as I could and I need to get back to that. Some things are still relevant and interesting no matter when the topic started.

I do wish that certain posters would make the effort to find their old threads on a topic and add to them instead of starting a new thread once or twice a day on that SAME TIRED TOPIC. I'm sure Ken and Yvonne would like a break from babysitting those threads and moving stuff around all the time. JMHO, of course.

Unless they are still active, the old ones sink to the bottom so they shouldn't be in the way.

Please keep in mind I am Not making comment on my feelings about the questions. Just wanted to know how others felt about certain areas.

I agree with Beth on this one. I've found topics interesting to me on threads years old. Sometimes when I post a new comment on an old thread it sort of reawakens the thread, as others respond to my post.

I'm puzzled by Beth's comment here however:

I used to bump them for additional comments as often as I could and I need to get back to that.

I don't know the forum lingo as well as others. What are you talking about, B? What does 'bump' mean and what are you trying to get back to?

When a poster responds to a thread, it "bumps" the thread to the top so others see that there is activity on it. What I need to get back to is reading old threads to see if any of them might be interesting to revisit; if so, "bump." :D

Dwight: To “bump” a thread means to make a post in it, with the intention of bringing it back to the top of the thread list.

Some people will just post “Bump.”

I think you're doing sexy talk to me with all the bumps and whatnot. I know I'm pretty much irresistible but try to restrain yourself, okay?

Mostly, that's because we have new people joining all the time and they don't necessarily look at the later pages.

I'm guilty of that myself and so might comment or ask a question that was covered later in the thread. It's my own laziness.

When another forum member starts a thread with an informative or otherwise interesting opening post, please take time to reply to it. Otherwise, one-post threads may be removed at some point. Several of the older ones have already been removed, although others have been left to live.

I see a downside to resurrecting old posts. When one comes to the site and clicks on “New Posts”, they see a lot of old posts from past years suggesting not much new activity and the forum is dead. There’s some of that on the other senior forum too so I don’t know what to suggest.
