Where is "here"? NYS somewhere? FWIW: I'm in the Finger Lakes south of Rochester and we get about 120" of snow per season. However, the Tug Hill area gets a lot more than that. From the Wiki article: "The Tug Hill town of Montague in Lewis County recorded the unofficial New York State 24-hour snowfall record of 77 inches (6.4 ft; 2.0 m) in January 1997.[5] Hooker (a hamlet in the town of Montague) holds the state record for snowfall in a single season, after accumulating 466.9 inches (38.91 ft; 11.86 m) of snow during the winter of 1976-1977.[17] "On February 12, 2007, the National Weather Service reported on "tremendous" snowfall totals in the Tug Hill region that accumulated between February 3–12. During that ten-day period, the hamlet of Redfield received 141 inches (11.8 ft; 3.6 m) of snow, the village of Parish received 121 inches (10.1 ft; 3.1 m) of snow, and the hamlet of North Osceola received 106 inches (8.8 ft; 2.7 m) of snow.[18]"
Since we are at 52-feels like 48, according to the weather channel on my iPad, I should be happier about the temperature here; but I am all bundled up this morning, and still cold. Time to get out the little fingerless gloves so I can keep my hands warm and still type. We have some gloves that charge with usb and warm up, and I think it is time to get those out , too ! Even the south is too cold for me anymore……
Gloves that you can charge up to warm up- that sounds great!!! I wouldn't mind having something like that!!!
They have gloves, socks, hats, and even vests/jackets that charge with usb. Some of the jackets, you have to carry a power base in the pocket to keep them running, but the little gloves just need to be charged when they run down, just like a phone does. Amazon has an amazing collection !
We older folks get cold easily as opposed to the young, therefore you might want to consider an electric blanket. I have been using electric blankets for sleeping in the winter for years. I’m on number 3 three now. The first I replaced because it was getting old and shabby. The second I hung on to for too long and it started smoking. This current one I like because it has an electronic controller and is silent unlike the others that used a bi-metallic strip type controller that clicked.
Damn those Great Lakes streaming moisture across their south and east! We get lake effect snow and clouds here in PA when the wind is right (wrong?). They should be drained by sending their fresh water to the parched south west. What the hell!
I want the warmers you fill with fluid and put a match to so the lovely aroma follows you, and there's always the chance of Spontaneous Human Combustion.
I have a '51 Fergie tractor that works well. However, I bought my first 4WD truck in 2006 and have never looked back. I rarely have to plow anymore, although I did get my truck stuck last March going uphill getting to the road in deep snow. But my tires were well worn and have been recently replaced. My neighbor has a 4WD buggy-thingy with a plow and he usually does it in recent years anyway. A typical mid-winter day:
