Having a bad day at the Ok Corral Faye? Everything I wrote was in context with the OP and especially in line and in the same vein of thought that Lon opened up. I compared his analysis about rodeo people to his own lust for football. Simple really. So far as the military comment I made, sorry bout that but I WILL NOT allow anyone to think of themselves as a wimp for serving in any of our forces no matter what thread it is in.
Having a great day and thanks for asking. Lon comparison that the damage that bull riders suffer making the suffering of ropers look like wimps was in general and on topic and factual. Cody took it personally and made the off comment that he was called a wimp when in the navy, not that he thought of himself as a wimp. Go back and review and you will see how it started going off-topic. The football comparison had no bearing on the comparison of bull riding compared to roping. No one said that rough stock riding was the world's most dangerous sport and since Cody took Lon's comparison as a personal jab, then you jabbed back with the fact that since Lon like football, it was more dangerous to brain injury than bull riding. More concussions etc. Totally irrelevant IMO, so I spoke out. Carry on boys and maybe y'all can discuss how wrapping a dally and knitting are related. Since the title does include horses, maybe a discussion of the importance of horses in WW 1 is in order. That is an interesting study. OK, I am back out to finish my urban farming commonly known as lawn mowing. I use a power drive walk behind, so I cannot spin that into riding my iron pony like I could when I had a riding mower.
Well, Faye, no matter if it's an interest/liking of rough stock riding or timed-events, the FB page I'm in, with over 12,000 members, very little discussion is done, but me. It's really weird! One member on the page was mentioning about mask wearing at the NFR, etc. and I'm the only one that said anything back to him. I will always wonder why, with any "discussion" website, why people will join and then not do any talking/discussing. Perhaps they are afraid that someone may not like a reply they do and confront them about the reply.
It seems rather fitting because Angola prison also has a horse farm / ranch. The prisoners take care of the horses, train them for Police duty and crowd control among other things such as for farming. And yes, some horses are indeed used in the yearly rodeo that was just canceled due to the CV scare. Are you looking to go to Angola Lon for some Louisiana tax fraud or are you just musing about the different types of rodeo there are in this wonderful country?
I know no one else here, including Cody cares about bull riding, but the National Finals in Las Vegas started Thursday and I am now watching my recording of it. I wonder if Cody made it and is in the crowd. Terry Fator is singing the National Anthem never opening his mouth using his puppet. Awesome and heartwarming as the Brazilians stand with hats over their hearts along with the Americas and show the utmost respect for the USA and what the flag and National anthem represent. The Brazilian riders are the most humble and appreciative of all the opportunities the USA has afforded them. The only way any of these boys will take a knee is if their ride goes awry and their dismount is off and they don't land on their feet as planned. I was never into watching televised bull riding until Zek got me started and I was impressed that here is one sport where patriotism rules and old USA values haven't died. I started watching Heartland just to have a series to watch. 13 seasons long and so far, even though it is a bit lame, I am on season 3. It is basically a soap opera but I love the scenery as I have a soft spot for the Alberta mountains. Such beautiful horses. I think I will buy the book as stories like this are better to read than watched. The acting is lame. People getting thrown off their horses onto rocks with minimal injury and the guys getting into scuffles reminds me of the old westerns where it was easy to see the guy's fist missed by about afoot hahaha. Just saw a rider take a fall on his front side and wasn't moving. They called for the stretcher and they are now carrying him out. Not a good start and certainly brought a silence to the crowd and many bowed heads.
When I seen your posting here, I had to reply to it. The National Finals Rodeo, in Las Vegas, doesn't start until Thursday December 2nd and we will fly in on Friday December 3rd. If you are indeed watching a recorded go-around of the NFR (aka WNFR) it's definitely NOT from this year. This is the first sentence from an article talking about the 2021 WNFR: "The 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo will take place December 2-11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas."
The National Bull Riding Finals 2021 in Las Vegas started Thursday. I forgot The National Finals Rodeo starts Dec. 2 and that is the one you will attend. It also includes bull riding and I was thinking they both started Nov. 2.
Thanks, Faye, for clarifying that it's the National Finals Bull Riding. Heck, I didn't even know about it, then again, we aren't huge fans of bull riding. However, we have met both Charlie Sampson and Larry Mahan at the Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs.
Actually, John, a Brazilian can be in pro-rodeo as long as he lives in the U.S.. I remember, years ago, a bronc rider, by the name of Dave Appleton, was an "Aussi", living in the U.S.. The rodeo association also has a number of Canadians that are contestants in pro rodeo. The Calgary Stampede is a big/major rodeo in Canada with a very nice pay-out.
I always thought it might be fun to watch the bull riding events if I weren't there as a paramedic. Unfortunately, although I have been to several rodeos, in Los Fresnos and Mercedes, Texas, I was always there as a paramedic, and we nearly always transported at least one patient from the bull riding events, and almost never from any of the others, including the bucking events.
That is why I was amazed that Zek enjoyed bull riding because he was at rodeos as a paramedic for many years and reported the same as you. The most serious injuries requiring transport were from bull riding.
Did anyone see the record-breaking ride by Jose Vitor Leme riding the most difficult bull in the PBR circuit? 98.75 --- the highest score ever in pro bull riding and he broke his own record of 97.75. Amazing! And that bull Woopaa that very few can ride. Jose had a perfect score of 50, but while Woopaa's performance was amazing, he received 48.75 just 1.25 points short of a perfect score. Jose is the first to receive a perfect score in pro bull riding and he did it with a groin injury.
