    I hit a point in my career where new college grads thought I was lying when I said you used to be able to smoke in offices. They were flabbergasted. I managed a staff of 2 dozen office types when the laws hit...some smokers, some not. Talk about kindergarten chaos.

    Haha.

    I'm sure most remember "Colombo," and maybe you've seen re-runs in recent years. I remember watching them originally and nobody thought anything of him walking all over the place with a lit cigar. But watching the shows now it really stands out.

    There was one show I saw a couple of years ago where he had to question somebody who lived in a gigantic, very fancy mansion. They let him in, lit cigar and all, dropping ashes on the floor, lol. I think he asked for an ashtray at some point.

    Or the Tonight Show. Johnny lit up a few on camera. I know some cartoons edited out smoking scenes, and I'm sure some tv shows did...but I can't recall which.

    As an aside, THIS is the first issue that gave self-righteous people permission to get in the face of complete strangers and rage. Just tell them that the other guy's smoking kills you (second-hand smoke)...even out of doors. And it's all a pile of crap. Sound familiar?

    That reminds me of something I saw recently when watching a movie. In the opening credits, it actually said something like, "Rated R, Language and Smoking." I couldn't believe it. (Probably been going on for years but I just noticed.)

    Stupid, isn't it?

    But the message is clear: "This is supposed to offend you." They sure do.

    My gold wedding ring cost $10.

    I first got married on January 1, 1972, so that price was 50 years ago.

    My first house cost $50,000. I bought it in 1979. It was on 1/3 acre and about 10 miles outside of DC. People said I got ripped off. You got cars that cost more than that...and trucks that are 50% higher.

    @Bruce Andrew

    The single most beneficial thing folks can do, IMO, is quitting smoking!

    Not sure if its the same tool but I used a swing blade. Also cleared many vines and small trees with hubby's homemade machetti. Still use it now and then.
    I watched all those shows plus Red Skelton, The Real MCCoys ,etc..
