Ok, I'm not liking the info you found. I'm going to wait and speak to the cardio my MD is giving me a referral to before I try this "fish oil". I don't believe real fish oil would have any of those side-effects so maybe this isn't such a natural medication afterall ;( Thanks Yvonne, a bunch, Denise

Real fish oil would not have all the bad side effects, but some medical information said fish oil is not helpful to lower cholesterol, and may even raise the LDL (bad) cholesterol.
I wondered about it, because 2 capsules of fish oil all by itself has 35mg of cholesterol in it. Since all animal foods have cholesterol, it would seem like they would refer you to a plant-based omega 3 instead.

Here is a comparison of the benefits of both flax seed oil and fish oil, for omega 3.

Well, I was willing to do something more natural, but I'm doing fine with my foods supplying most of what I need, including Omega 3s. I just want my labs, and he wanted me to do the fish oil thing for 2 months and then have labs. I'm not going to and I'll let him know tomorrow :) thanks again

Vasepa is basically purified EPA (eicosapentanoic acid) and was developed to reduce the chance of A-fib that some experience with regular fish oil. It is still listed as a possible side effect, but I guess the risk is lower than eating a big helping of salmon or other fatty fish. I is thought that the causative item in fish oil with regards to A-fib is the DHA , so they made this to take that risk out...and to make more money from a patented drug of course. Ask your doctor and see what the think. Personally don't have any problem with fish oil and don't know anyone who does, but the risk must exist. Have you had A-fib in the past, @Denise Happyfeet ?

No A-fib @Don Alaska and the first article I read on the Vascepa also talked about it being EPA, no DHA. Interesting, and yes, I'll ask the cardio if I see him before I get a chance to ask my MD. I've eatin huge pieces, maybe 6 oz for me that's big ;) and never had any issue with Salmon, who knows ;) I'll do more investigating and definitely see what I can gather from a doctor ;)

Here is a short video that explains some of it. This is just one more opinion, but take a look, @Denise Happyfeet .

Old shoulder issue has refaced for some reason. I have been down all day. Aleve, heat, ice not much help this time. I maybe force to see doctor if i can not get better. The pain is enough me make you say dirty words without thinking. We even ordered pizza for tonight can not move shoulder without hurting.

Sounds like my rotator cuff pain last spring (which, according to my doc, is actually tendonitis of the shoulder tendons).

Very sharp pain, had to hold my arm in tight to my body to minimize it. A cortisone shot in April made it pretty much disappear overnight. Did PT, and have been doing PT at home since.

Both shoulders are probably 90% ok now, but who knows for how long?

    Good luck Hedi. :D

I totally agree that PT can be very helpful in minimizing some body pain, @Bruce Andrew . Several years ago, I finally went to a sports med doctor because my right knee had gotten so bad that I just lurched along and could not bend it at all.
The doctor did x-rays, said that I really needed a complete knee replacement, but that was impossible due to my heart conditions. He said that all they could do was to give me a cortisone shot, which would work for a few months to help the pain.

I looked on youtube for knee exercises that I could do in the swimming pool when we went to the fitness center, and started doing them while the cortisone shot was helping with the pain management.
By the time the shot wore off, my knee was bending….. not a lot, but bending. So I kept on doing the exercises, and now it does a pretty good job of working right and I seldom have any pain in the knee anymore either.

"Old folks" who take anti-inflammatories long-term usually get Meloxicam from their healthcare provider because it is reportedly easier on the stomach (although ALL NSAIDs are bad there) and carries less cardiac risk. I think some here take it for their pain.

Denise, I think I've mentioned this numerous times in this thread, but I was put on meloxicam ('script) in March for what turned out to be tendonitis. That annoyance turned into nearly unbearable arthritic pain in my wrists and hands that started in April. By July or so it stabilized and started getting better in August.

The melox (15 mg) was a huge help because I quit it twice and the pain came roaring back in two days. It is in the same class as ibu (anti-inflammatory) but I could, and did, take acetaminophen with it. I started taking a half pill per day probably in July and I was okay. Although I did this about two months ago and it didn't work, I am now taking a half-pill every other day, starting this past Monday. So far so good.

At least for my situation, meloxicam has been a wonder-drug. :)

Don: I started composing my post before you added yours. But I was distracted so it took me that long to post it.

One common side effect of melox is raising blood pressure, which I am already on meds for. Although my doc is alright with everything, this is one thing motivating me to get off it. But if the pain comes roaring back I will be on it again full-dose.

I cannot bear unbearable, crippling, sustained pain; at some point death seems like it would be a relief (and I'm sure it would be). Reducing the pain was all that mattered.
