I was surprised to receive a phone call from my BC surgeon earlier this afternoon. She wanted to know how I am and if I need anything, which I thought was very kind of her. It seems strange to not have any appointments or treatments, like when I first retired and had nothing scheduled to do. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you.)

The Black Friday sales vortex is trying to suck me in. I spent most of the afternoon looking at the Fitbit Charge 5 which is a new release and already on sale. I need another fitness tracker like a hole in the head, but I'm a sucker. I managed to not buy one and then saw a 4k 55" flat screen TV for $380. Sheesh. (And no, we don't "need" another TV so I didn't buy it.) I seriously need to stop looking at these sales.

I fell for a 3.5 qt LeCreuset dutch oven to go with the others that I seldom use--but it's so shiny, and what a deal.

I'm beginning to be concerned about @Bibbi Wright. I hope all is well and that she will return soon. I don't know why her avatar has disappeared; I liked seeing her smiling face. Come back, Bibbi!!

Bibbi has gone through stuff that we can only imagine. I'm sure she'll be back when she's up to it.

I hope so, but in the meantime I want her to know that we're thinking of her.

Not much of interest going on around here, but that's never stopped me from posting. :D My chest is still sunburned-looking from radiation and the skin is SO itchy. Under my arm the darkened skin is peeling; new skin underneath is very pale but doesn't hurt. I'm still wearing my clothes wrong side out to keep the seams from rubbing on stuff so I'm quite the fashion plate.

Tomorrow I'll be making pies and cranberry sauce for the Thanksgiving Day family get-together at my sister-in-law's. I'll get up on Thursday morning to make creamed potatoes, fruit salad and a veggie tray. I'm not going to the gathering but my husband will, and he'll take "our" contributions. :p None of our children are coming into town for Thanksgiving so it will be a quiet day.

I haven't been able to resist some of the sales this week. I'm a Fiestaware (dishes) collector and there are a couple of new accessory pieces I "needed." Macy's had them on sale with free shipping so they should be coming soon. I'm still eyeing the Fitbit Charge 5 tracker though I have talked myself out of it at least 3 times already. My arguments are getting weaker. o_O

I made some sugar cookies earlier so I guess I'll mosey on down to the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee and check 'em out. I was too lazy to frost them but I'm sure they'll be OK.

Fiestaware eh? I haven't bought a new piece of it for years. I used to hit the Macy's sales on it and as a result, I have several hundred pieces most never used. I gave about 100 pieces away that were colors I really didn't like, just bought them because they were new colors. I do have several original pieces made before the reproductions were available.

I love Fiestaware also ! My mom and dad lived in Southern California in the late 1920’s, and she bought some of the original Fiestaware and the Franciscan Desert Rose dishes.
We had those when I was growing up, although the Desert Rose was kept in a china cabinet and never used, but we did use the Fiestaware.
Back then, it was still actually made in California, and later the Franciscan was made in England, and now is made in some foreign country (can’t remember which one), and looks nothing like the original Franciscan.

Over the years, I added to the Franciscan, and started getting some of the newer Fiestaware; but had to leave it all behind when we moved from Idaho to Alabama. I still have the Franciscan , even though I seldom can use it.

I've been a dish collector forever and I've got the groaning kitchen cabinets to prove it. My obsession began with Pfaltzgraff Folk Art in the early 80s but the thrill was gone after "America's Potter" moved to China. I've collected Franciscan Desert Rose, Pfaltzgraff Folk Art and Holiday Spice, Mikasa Italian Countryside, and finally Fiestaware. Not sure what you mean by "reproductions"?

I don't buy like I used to (no room left in the cabinets :D) but I still love them and buy an occasional piece. My oldest daughter also collects Fiesta and we love to support "made in the USA." I have bought some vintage pieces and discontinued colors from various sources (Ebay, Replacements LTD, etc.) and most of those look as good as the brand new stuff at Macy's.

A friend of mine recently told me that the old Pyrex "Princess" bowls are a hot commodity these days and I did an eye-roll. Check out this insanity... https://www.etsy.com/listing/103680...nd-white?ref=pla_sameshop_listing_top-2&cns=1 People are crazy.

I love my Desert Rose dishes, too! I haven't bought any in years, but I've always loved to use a cup and saucer so occasionally I get one out for my coffee. My very first "piece" of Desert Rose was a cup and saucer found in a thrift shop back in the 80s. From there I was hooked!

My MIL is also a dinnerware collector and her passion was always Royal Albert Old Country Roses. She has a warehouse full of that stuff, though her "everyday" dishes are an old Pfaltzgraff pattern from when they were made in the USA.

I collect depression glass, 50s-60s glass, elegant glass, head vases, glass ladles, shakers, Fiestaware, all kinds of pottery, and the list goes on. I started downsizing a few years ago and sold about 40 medium-sized boxes of collectible glass. The guy left with his 1/2 ton pickup springs sagging. More later about Desert Rose, Vine, and others, I can't remember. Still, have enough to fill a small UHaul truck.

    @Faye Fox

The strange thing about all this "collectible" stuff is that you can't USE it for it's intended purpose, you can't even routinely VIEW it as it's cooped-up in various glass front cabinets.....

Notice they are still for sale!! A seller can ask anything they like, but the only thing I pay attention to is what they actually have sold for. According to esty, my Woodvine collection is worth over $100K. I would be lucky to get $500 for it.

You're right, asking and getting are two different things when it comes to the price of an item.
You can look up the history of the selling price of an item on Ebay. You can also check out how many of those items did not sell over the same time period. This info helps in determining whether it's worth while listing an item.

Ugh, I'm tired. I've been wanting to make a pan of dressing for a week and got all the stuff together, but forgot how exhausting it is. I was forced to make it today or else face throwing out quickly wilting ingredients. Chopping all the green onions, celery, etc. and baking cornbread was more labor intensive than I remembered... or else I'm just getting old and pathetic. :D Thank goodness I had some chicken stock in the freezer so I didn't have to make stock today, too. I don't plan to bake the dressing today so I'll put it in the freezer so it will be ready to go. Seems like I've been in the kitchen all day.
