it's supposed to be sunny and warm here for the next few days. I think they said 70 º Friday or Saturday.
It was warmer here today also, and supposed to be fairly warm for the next few days. We even opened the house doors during the middle of the day to let some fresh air in. Looks like it will get colder again next week though, but the respite from the cold is very welcome, in any case.
Warmer here, too. Yesterday and today have been the first two days above 0 F. in quite a while. We are surrounded by very cold air, so I expect temps to plunge again to well below zero. We got another 3 inches of snow, so, added to the previous 3 inches that I hadn't bothered to plow, I was on the tractor today plowing the 6 or so inches off the driveway. With the warmth came gloomy days, so it is entering the "hibernation time" when the daylight is short and the short days are worsened by the gloomy weather. Up north it is -40 F. with wind chills of -60 or lower.
It is actually 73 here right now. We have the doors open to air out the house, and have been outside in the yard as well. Bobby cut down the wilted banana plants, and we covered them with more potting soil and a big pile of shredded leaves, and then weighted it all down with the tops that were cut off. I am amazed at how large the bottom are now, and looking forward to seeing how large they get next summer. It is really nice to have the warm days for a while ! This is the bottom of one of the banana plants, and they were only about the size of a broom handle when we planted them there last spring.
A little cooler here today (61) but still about 20 degrees high than normal. I fear we have had too many warm days and my hydrangeas will start budding just to be killed in January. It was sure nice for doing outside Christmas decorating.
We are back below 0 F. again this morning, but the break was nice while it lasted. Bright and sunny again!
Anyone from Hawaii ? Blizzard forecast for them. Even the headlines wrote.. Yes you read that correctly. Wow
Cold here at 39 degrees and finally seasonal appropriate. Sure glad I got my decorating done. My hands get cold easily. @Hedi Mitchell Lucky you!
I was surprised the first time I visited Hawaii in 1973 to find they have a snow ski season there on the volcanos. It only lasts a few weeks, but for those who have moved there from colder climes, it gives them a chance to experience snow again. -29 F. (-33.9 C.) here this morning, but there is a storm approaching from the west that is predicted to bring warmer temps and snow. That is supposed to be followed by an even bigger storm. It all depends on what that giant high pressure system that sits over the pole allows to get through. So far, it looks like a white Christmas....
The wind is gusting close to 20 mph here as 70° leaves and 30° blows in. It's gonna be a schizo week: Makes it tough to heat with wood. Those days when it gets in the 50°s but then down to the 30°s at night present moral dilemmas...do I let the fire go out and restart it in the evening, or just throw some small stuff in during the day to keep the embers going for the overnight fire? The decision is much easier when it hits 70°.
