Stetson Wright won a third straight all-around title at the National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday. The 22-year-old saddle bronc and bull rider from Milford, Utah, earned a payout of $585,850.

Yes, but most-to-all timed-event guys, past and present, don't pay much attention to rough stock riders/champions. But, no doubt that Stetson is a great bull rider, but Sage Kimsey outdone him and won the World in bull riding.

Tuff Cooper, old "Super Looper" Roy Cooper's son, didn't have a good NFR. Other tie-down ropers we liked: Corey Solomon and John Douch really didn't either. Spend most of the year traveling and trying to stay in the Top 15, and then not making much money at the NFR. Sort of disappointing to me. But, then again, welcome to rodeo!

Total BS! You don't but you ain't everybody. Have you ever watched or been part of an entire rodeo? Do you ever even read the Team Roping Journal? Did you read the article interviewing Jackie Crawford and Kelsie Chace? Do you even know who they are?

Rodeo isn't just timed events and western clothes with an emphasis on Wrangler's jeans. It is great that is what you like but why do you always want to try to put the focus on what you like and discount others' interest in rural western life?

Faye, I was a part of PRCA for some 15 years, as both a team roper/"header" and working for stock contractors. You know about ranching, while I KNOW about PRCA rodeo. Actually, I have the December issue of Team Roping Journal. By the time bull riding started, my "heeler" and I had already loaded up our horses and were headed home.

Breakaway Roping became very popular in 2019, when PRCA approved the event at their rodeos, but not all rodeo committees will allow it at their rodeo. 2019 was just a few years ago. Up until PRCA approved it at their rodeos, Breakaway was not known to many rodeo fans, because they didn't see it. I have never followed Breakaway Roping, until I seen it on The Cowboy Channel. In fact, Dodge City Roundup and Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo didn't have Breakaway when we were there this last summer. When I watched JJ Hampton do Breakaway Roping, and win a rodeo, I was very impressed.

You may not like Wrangler jeans and shirts, but many rodeo contestants, past and present do. You don't think very highly of trophy belt buckles, but World Champions love theirs and so do those Jackpot Roping winners.

From what I seen in Las Vegas, "rural western" life/clothes has taken on somewhat of the Los Angeles look. Many "Old Timers", like myself, have a hard time seeing what rodeo has turned into. Indoor arenas, like Denver, with laser beams going off and spot lights weaving all over the place..............looks sort of crazy. So much "flashy" look. Hearing Aerosmith play "Walk This Way" while showing different rodeo events on a very large screen, before a rodeo starts, may be what the young fans of today want, but the much older fans don't necessarily like it.

So, Bottom Line is: You can talk all about ranching and I will talk about professional rodeo. I know about PRCA rodeo and you know about ranching. Let's leave it that way.

After some thinking, we will go back to Vegas one more time, but only during the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas. Most likely, next Dec. 2022. But, that next time, will stay at South Point Hotel/Casino. After paying a visit there, that is where we want to be. Definitely not on the Strip anywhere.

Faye, I KNOW about rodeo! Just how many times do I have to tell you that I became a member of PRCA back in the mid 80's. Heck, I even showed you pictures of Hall of Fame Inductees that we got our picture taken with and were at the Hall when they were inducted.

I've gotten very tired of arguing with you about this. Heck, even my wife has told me "she just seems to want to put up down and yet she complains at how you put down others concerning Western wear."

Have you ever been a member of any organization of rodeo lady competitors? Have you competed in a rodeo arena? I have!! The walls in our apartment living room are full of pictures of PRCA World Champions that we have met. Does your home look like that? We have a large photo album full of autographed pictures of World Champions. We have me Larry Mahan, Walt Garrison, Charlie Sampson, Dee Pickett, Dan Mortenson and others.

My wife is a huge PRCA rodeo fan. It's like she met me while I was still doing my weekend rodeos. She knows a whole lot as well.

Now, if this doesn't stop, I will have to stop it. Just what does that mean..........you figure it out. I've been with Ken's forum since August 2015. Obviously I like his forum, but.

I deleted my post as apparently seeing photos of rodeo pros that are also my cousins wasn't to your liking. It isn't as impressive as photos taken with rodeo stars that anyone can pose with. What do you want to stop? Are you threatening to have me banned? It isn't my fault you have a problem reading with understanding. I will do myself a favor and avoid any thread you are involved in.

No, not ban you at all. Just have BOTH of us understand that you have your knowledge and I have mine. You worked a ranch and I never did. I competed in the rodeo arena, but you didn't (that I know of). For wife and I, meeting, autographs and getting pictures with, World Champions is really, really cool. We love to look at our walls and see pictures of whom we've met.

Even though we attended two PRCA sanctioned rodeos while were gone from Colorado, for 11 1/2 years, rodeo was gone for us while living in North Carolina and in northeastern Florida. Our hats were kept in a box in a closet and only came out twice to wear. When we moved back to Colorado, found out about The Cowboy Channel, and got a year subscription for it (on our Roku), rodeo came back to us full-scale. A few months after arriving back in Colorado, we went to the Mountain States Circuit Finals here and to the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo in Denver. It was like we had never left rodeo!

Unless you truly want to, don't avoid my posting/threads. We both have a word called "knowledge", so let's just keep it that way. Thanks!

Very well said, @Cody Fousnaugh , and exceptionally good points……. Both of you have areas you are interested in and have experiences in, and having different opinions and experiences is a good thing, and not a reason to throw a whole thread off track.

In the early 70s I was trail riding with a group and I mentioned that to someone a few years ago on another forum, they thought I was motorcycle riding. Each summer we had Mule Play Day, mostly the teams of other wagon riders participating in the normal rodeo events. It was much like watching one of the children's rodeo events, those small donkeys just don't seem to like competition of any kind. Houston has grown exponentially over the course of 50 years and I don't think any highway or major roadway allows trail riders except for the annual Texas Fat Stock Show and Rodeo with Trail Riders coming in from all over the state. That's fine with me because I would need a short aluminum ladder to get into the saddle.

Bear Creek Park was one large area that we would have an annual ride and use it for the staging area and entertainment. I looked at it a couple years ago on Google Earth and it was very hard to recognize anything about the old park. The old local trail riders printed monthly news paper was named the Sea Horse and you could make plans to ride every weekend with so many clubs around Houston.

I hear tell that there's fighting going on here. If so, please stop... going back to work now.

What fighting? There is no fighting at all. I made post #166 about Stetson winning the all-around at NFR that was directed at no one just a statement about rodeo news. Cody replies like I was addressing him that he doesn't follow rough stock because he is a timed event guy and MOST timed event guys past and present don't follow rough stock.

I take issue with his false blanket statement and he goes off the rail from there with his usual babble and arrogance and what his wife says. He asked for my credentials so I make a post with an in-action at sanctioned rodeos photo collage including one of me and others of my cousins that are famous rodeo people IN ALL EVENTS and have been for generations. Many of them are in regional rodeo halls of fame. I decide to delete it after his angry post threatening me if I didn't stop disagreeing with him that he takes as a personal put-down. He asked for credentials so I gave him my credentials with rodeo action photos, something he has never provided this forum and NEVER will. He apparently didn't read the post or study the photos or maybe was upset that I might perhaps be knowledgeable about rodeo as a contestant, announcer, flankwoman, stockwoman, and fan. But that is all in the past and best to leave it there.

It is sad you are bothered @Ken Anderson over this nonsense. Nothing to see here folks, just lots of dust. I will mosey on and leave this thread to the forums rodeo "expert." Too much unnecessary virtual dust combined with bull manure gets me to choking.

Well, Faye, I will say this about your post here: I have shown on this forum pictures of us with rodeo champions and Hall of Fame Inductees. Your version of this who thing is somewhat different than mine, but that's ok.

All I know is that the posts between you and I got into some type of arguing. Not fighting, but arguing. And, like I've known about this and other forum, many in-depth discussions can turn into arguing and a Mod/Forum Owner has to step in. Forums are for "friendly" discussions, but, sometimes, that word "friendly" gets kicked out the door. Again, you and I just have a difference in opinion. I've been around PRCA rodeos for many years and have seen many changes. Now, if someone really wants the "experts" to say something, talk to any PRCA Judge or even the PRCA Office. They are really the "experts", not either of us.

Please don't blame Ken for saying the word "fighting".

You and I simply have a difference in opinion about rodeo.............and that is ok. But, when that "difference in opinion" turns somewhat nasty, that is when things go down-hill and someone has to stop it.

    How about those Rodeo Clowns?
Do 100-150 rodeos and get thrown around in a barrel by a one ton bull for a lousy 100K+ a year. Might even be made “clown of the year” by the PRCA folks but do they get a whole lot of recognition during the year or win belt buckles for their performances? Naw. A paycheck, a lot of bruises and maybe even collect on their life insurance policy.

That’s not a whole lot for saving the skins of the bull riders.
