I must not be too worried about it because between Facebook/Forums and Blogs I have revealed almost everything about me except all my Passwords. Do you worry about Identity Theft?
Having been the victim twice of identity theft, I don't worry about it much anymore because I am on the "she doesn't have anything worth stealing list." It caused me a lot of grief and was a mess to clean up, but the crooks got nothing in the end.
We sometimes worry about it, but just what can a person/persons do? People buy things online as well as pay bills online. When a person pays a bill online, using their banking account, the banking account numbers have to be put online to be paid that way. Mail delivery isn't as good as it once was, so "online bill paying" goes into affect.
My only real privacy concern is the that damn nosy Google. Have not used Firefox in years and years, but added it tonight and in process of learning how to use it.
Keep in mind it's the search engine you use that mostly determines tracking your online activity. Firefox is a browser, not a search engine. So you want to set DUCKDUCKGO as the search engine in your Firefox, as follows: Click on "Tools" then "Settings": Then click on "Search," select Default Search Engine, then choose DuckDuckGo: There is no "Save" button for this, or for most Firefox settings...the settings are automatically saved when you make the changes. Some Cookie settings require you to save them...the Save button is obvious. So just close the Settings tab that opened up and you're good to go.
I knew when I posted all of that you were likely already ahead of me. I don't use Google [Chrome] either. Nor do I use Microsoft's Edge browser. I also use Firefox on my iPhone, for those rare occasions I want to abuse myself by using the web on a tiny screen.
Startpage is a Dutch search engine that uses Google search results while maintaining the privacy of its users by not storing user information or search data, and by removing all trackers. It also includes an Anonymous View browsing feature that allows users to open search results through a proxy. It has been discussed, along with other options in the thread: Search Engines: Are There More Other Than Google? Startpage also has a privacy-focused web email, known as Startmail, although I prefer Hushmail for that.
I think I recently said I do worry about that 5 bucks in my checking account. My big pet peeve is these scam telephone calls that constantly use up our phone service daily. I am so tired of hearing politicians tell everyone they are doing something about it, they haven't ! Most recently they seem to all be coming from Florida with a few on the west coast. The heartland has better things to do.
My scam calls appear to be coming from my area code...but I think those Caller ID Numbers we see are spoofed. If these things originate from offshore, then there's nothing U.S. pols can really do except apply pressure on the leaders of those nations. I, too, find it annoying. I do not pay for cell service so as to provide a more convenient way to sell me stuff or to try to rip me off (actually, I do, but it's not intended to be that.) We have been had...again. Bring back pay phones...their demise was my main reason for getting a cell phone in the first place, should I be out of town and have a failure of transportation.
