That is a good standard to live by unless the circumstances call for more of a given vitamin, mineral or what have you. The norm for protein is about 30-32 grams per day but yet I use on the average of 240 grams. Most people get by on 10 grams or less of essential and nonessential aminos but I make sure I take in at least 20 grams of branch chain amino acids all by themselves and an additional 25 grams of essential aminos not counting what I may take in via my diet. Another good example of what people should look at is that the mineral content of our vegetables is getting pretty poor since the soil is getting depleted of trace minerals / elements like boron. The human body MUST have it but like any other mineral, the body cannot make it and we need a minimum of 3-6 grams per day. In order to get that much you’d have to eat pounds, not ounces of veggies per day so supplementation is an absolute necessity or else your brain and muscles suffer and yes, even your hormone levels drop. Personally, I take in a max of 12 grams per day because my muscles need it and at 70, my hormone production depends on it hence my high scores on the testosterone scale. To me, if you cannot get what you need in your diet, supplementation of those items that are a necessity for good health is definitely NOT a waste of money. Know what you need and why you need it, know how to use what you need and then get what you need.
I have posted all that I take and my Saving Healer is: Grape Seed Extract, taking it 26 yrs soon. No colds, no flu, no vaccines, no allergy issues, no headaches, no sore throats, and see my doc once a year to check in the get refills on the 2 meds I do take from Pharma.
Like fewer and fewer others as time goes by, you did what is right, the same wisdom as has been available (but is usually ignored) for 6000 years almost. In place of wisdom and truth, instead of living so wisely, today deception and profits is most common.
Could be some luck there, BUT I'm not wanting to be a slave to Pharma more than I am now...My 2 type of "innocent" meds are doing their jobs...BP and Thyroid supports. And I am very aware of what I put in my gut food wise...
Do you have a specific brand or type you think one might want to include in their research on grape seed extract?
I usually go between Olympian Labs 200mg capsule and Now Foods 250 mg capsule. These 2 are my favorite brands.
I really don't know why folks use words like "slave" and other words to describe doctors, pharmacies, etc.. I don't see where anyone is a "slave" to whatever. If people need doctors, surgeries and prescription meds, it shouldn't be a big deal. Many people have their lives saved by what people call "slave" things. And, there are those that are Diabetic II, know it, but don't want to do anything about it. When knew such a person. His wife stopped making cookies, cakes and other sweets. He didn't like that at all and would buy a package of cookies on his way home from work and eat most of them in his truck before going into his apartment. They lived right across from us. We saw an ambulance take him a number of times to the hospital, but after a while, we didn't see him at all. We asked his wife and she told us he had died. My wife had a girlfriend that had to have a hip replacement. After the surgery, her surgeon told her to take it easy. She didn't follow at all what he said and ended up going back into surgery.
I take an over 50 multivitamin now because "They" say that if you get COVID-19, having taken a multivitamin will prevent you from getting as sick. I don't know if it does any good but maybe, at least, it won't do any harm. And it doesn't cost much. Still not taking grape seed extract. However, I almost never have a cold, flu, never have headaches, sore throats, Or arthritis. I can't even remember the last time I was sick. I do have allergies but those I can live with.
It’s strange how so many people can say for certain that such and such keeps me from being sick. it’s a given that there is nothing wrong with shoring up one’s immune system but still, one cannot say for certain why one person gets ill and another doesn’t if all other things remain equal. It’s an oxymoron in that the alternative is unknown. It’s kinda like taking glucosamine. Some folks say it is a life changer and they can move again whilst all the research that has been done says it probably won’t help at all but there’s no harm in taking it. As I mentioned before, I’m a supplement freak but I know exactly what each one does and there is a specific purpose for each one I use. It’s a given that they all in some way or another will help my immune system but that’s a positive side effect of what the actual purpose is.
One thing you can judge supplements by is whether they make you feel different. I have found that B100 supplements have made me feel better for years. Not sure why, but B^ is my theory. I have recently added NAC and found I could feel a difference in how I feel. Vitamin D has been shown in hundreds of studies now to help with Covid and other diseases, as well as a number of organic disorders. Vitamin K2 has been shown to help with osteoporosis and there are a few small studies that indicate it helps with cardiac issues.
Yeah, I like the B’s too. I incorporate B3 (niacin) into my kickapoo juice to help open the capillaries and B6 for clearer brain function. B12 makes me too jittery even with a small dose. D3 is a must. Whether one wants to call it a catalyst, hormone or vitamin it helps with intestinal absorption of minerals like calcium which is a must for good muscle growth. Zinc uses the heck out of Magnesium so I take extra Magnesium Oxide to compensate for that loss and the list goes on. It’s a constant battle in that seniors aren’t typically supposed to be able to build muscle mass. The thing is, those nay sayers aren’t taking into account that today’s readily available supplementation regimens can be implemented to replace what the body once made on it’s own and what can no longer be provided in healthy amounts via diet because of the depletion of trace minerals in our soil.
I had not heard that. I read that Zinc can deplete copper, so you should supplement copper if you supplement zinc, just not both at the same time (in other words, take one in the AM and the other in the PM.) Then there's the different types of zinc, and the effort to figure out exactly how much zinc is present in a tablet of a given size (in other words, a 25mg zinc tablet does not necessarily contain 25mg of zinc.) I have a conversion list I grabbed from another forum (% of elemental zinc in gluconate, picolinate, ascorbate, etc) but it was put together by a member who researched various sources, and I cannot confirm the figures.
I have to look at things from my own perspective which is the increase and use of muscle mass and how best to do that. The bio-chemical processes that the normal man may have are quite different from a male whose focus is on hypertrophy, recovery and let’s do it again with more micro fissures in muscle fiber and this time let’s produce more satellite cells. (Nope, it ain’t sex but it is sexy sounding.) Example: Normal zinc usage for the average male is around 12mg a day whereas magnesium is around 350-400mg daily but I run zinc at 15mg and magnesium at 450 being careful not to overuse zinc because it does indeed impede the metabolic processes involving copper. The aim being of course to increase male hormone levels and isolate more free testosterone which magnesium and zinc is largely responsible for with zinc acting as a catalyst of sorts. One thing I know I have mentioned before is my use of bulk products rather than pills or capsules. There are some things that are just better getting in pill form like melatonin or copper but other things like magnesium, all my amino acids, C, and some other things are all in bulk powder form and are pure. No synthetics!! I have to do the chemistry thing and measure out each supplement I use but I avoid a lot of the mistrust I have concerning fillers and priority blends. All that said John, I. wouldn’t mind seeing that chart of yours because I’m always studying just to make sure I am not missing something of value. The bio-chemistry of the human body is soooooo complex, sometimes confusing and wonderful at the same time. Just when I think I have a grip on one side of knowledge I find out from another angle that I know nothing at all.
