All those Russian conscripts never even knew they were going to war, they thought it was just a big exercise. This was exactly what I meant when I stated on another post that the Russians in WWII killed more of their own population than Germans. The term Cannon Fodder is real and not just a silly phrase. People in Russia are now seeing the dead bodies of their sons and Fathers. That along with the crashing economy will be the end of the little dictator KGB midget. The only true communist there are in the military leadership and intelligence service, the commoner is not interested in attacking their neighbors. The coming weeks will be very interesting.
I read that in WWII, there were not enough guns to go around for the infantry, so they were told to attack with sticks and then pick up the rifle of a fallen comrade after he was down.
They would set up machine guns behind their forward attack line and if any soldier retreated or tried to come back wounded they killed them. The card carriers did not do the fighting, they forced others to do the fighting and dying. I see extremely poor leadership in this Russian attack of Ukraine. You have large armor units all stacked up together along with ammunition trucks in the same group, fuel trucks and little to no medical units. They were used as pawns on a board game by Putin. Now they are using long range artillery just indiscriminately destroying the cities of Ukraine. I hope they hang that bastard for war crimes. He will never be able to travel outside of Russia, that is if they don't kill him themselves. If they charge him under international law he's a goner for sure and he knows it. His military will not be so fast to mount up after this. I hope the Ukrainians are resupplied with everything they need to completely destroy all the Russians that are inside Ukraine and see them take back the Crimea and kick those Russians out. It should have been done when they committed the crime in 2014. Hopefully this has shook a lot of heads in governments all over Europe, especially Germany because it has the ability to stand up against any force. The Germans have been forbidden to surpass the number of tanks and planes and equipment that was agreed upon at the surrender in WWII. They have been allowed to sell some of the best Armor and Artillery in the world in low numbers but it is as always better than most nations build. Russia would not even think about messing with Germany and after this fight is over they won't be thinking about crossing the Fulda Gap in the future. It has always been the main stopping point of WWIII there in the GAP. There is a great book from 1987 "Team Yankee", it centers on a Tank and crew on the front lines after Russia has started the war and crossing into the Fulda Gap.
