Motor oil is out of this world now too, hubby was going to change oil, 4 quarts, one Qt of transmission fluid $54!
I was just thinking that the flour shortage will also mean products like dry pasta will likely become scarce. So for anyone planning a hoard, you might consider picking up some.
We just went to the store, and bread is definitely going up, as are other foods. When I looked online, Walmart said they were completely out of stock of both bologna chubs and sliced salami lunch meat. When we went in the store they did have both in stock, but the bologna chubs , which have been $5.99 for 5 lbs , and then went up to just over $7, are now $9 each. Sliced bologna is $2.50 a lb here, and that has always been one of the cheapest meats that a person could buy. I am sure that it is going to get a lot worse, and any kind of meat is going to not be affordable, especially to low-income people. I have beans, rice, WW flour, oatmeal, and canned veggies in the storage room, but we are not geared to any kind of a really hard depression/inflation.
Some of the analysts are saying that China, with Russia's help, is pulling a "Reagan Strategy" on us now. If they can make support of NATO so expensive that, on top of the debt acquired in the pandemics with the giveaways and vaccines, that the Western economy collapses, the U.S. and perhaps the West will fall and the world will turn to China and Russia for stability and the U.S. will go bankrupt. That would make either the Chinese currency (they have two) or some pool of currencies the Reserve Currency for the world. It would have a result similar to the fall of the USSR, when Reagan got them to spend more than they could afford. Some backchannel guys have said that The U.S. saw this coming and that what what led to the disgusting Afghanistan pullout; the military resources would be needed else where and we no longer have enough to cover all bases. I have heard the Germany has now reinstated a draft and is trying to build up their forces on short notice. It appears NATO is going to precipitate a war at all costs for some reason, so prices of everything, not only food, will skyrocket and perhaps property taxes will skyrocket to make owning property impossible and help pay for the disaster. That last is just wild speculation, however.
Pretty sure she meant that the 4 quarts of oil and 1 quart of transmission totaled $54 altogether. I read that and wondered what it costs for an oil change at Midas or another service station now.
Duh. Although I did a quick search and the top banner links were for Walmart (under $20/gallon) and AMSOIL ($45/gallon.) So $54/gallon is sure within the [obscene] range of reality.
No John I meant 4 qt.s of oil and one quart but after asking hubby again to be sure it did change a little. 4 qts of oil and TWO Quart's of transmission fluid was $54.
Thats what hubby said and he didn't buy if, but I told him he may regret not getting it ,don't think its going to go down anytime soon if ever.
I am stocking up on a few more canned and packaged foods, plus everyday foods we use fresh (fruit/veggies), and once again, Walmart tells me that they are out of the whole wheat bread that we buy and also English muffins, which we buy now and then. Meat prices are still skyrocketing, when I looked at chicken, the chicken wings are around $4 a lb, for heaven’s sake ! When people can’t afford meat, then the prices of beans and other vegetarian proteins will start going up faster as well. (I also ordered more TP, just in case…..)
