Whether the fuel goes up or down, we still have to buy it. No way are we going to take a cab, bus, Uber or walk.
One of the truckers on Twitter has said that it cost him $2800 for fuel to go 3,000 miles, so that is about a dollar for each mile he drives, and we are still seeing fuel prices going up. The farmers need diesel to run the farming equipment , so this is going to really affect food prices from foods we grow right here, as well as food that is shipped in from elsewhere.
Yes, we do still have to buy it. This post is a bit long, but have patience with me, please? DEAL WITH THE GAS PRICE BY USING LESS??? Drivers our age will remember the early 70s when highway speed was restricted to 55 mph because of the fuel shortage of the time. I don't recall reading any studies that figured how much fuel was actually saved. I do know that I saved considerably, since I recorded mileage and fuel amounts at the pump. I still keep track of mileage on my 11 year old Ford F10; 123,000 + miles, 19,000 pulling a travel trailer. My driving no doubt contributes to the high mileage as to the fuel mileage. Here's how. To get from our home to down town Gainesville (FL) takes ca 17 miles on I 75, or 20 or so on a national highway. The traffic flows at 80 mph both directions on I 75, in spite of the speed limit being 70 mph. And yes, there are drivers who switch lanes to pass the 80 mph flow; the same on the highway with the SL 65. Downtown Gainesville is similar with the speed limits being 24, 35, and 45; the flow keeps up with the vehicles in front, which might be 60+ in the 45 zone. The limit in school zones seems to be acknowledged, at least that. When I drive on the Interstate, I set the cruise control on 70 (sometimes 65) and stay in the right lane, The highway is three lanes, so the 18 wheelers can pass on the middle lane. The mileage difference between 65 and 70 is substantial, but above 70 it drops fast. Now, here comes the good part. Are you aware that whenever you press the brake peddle, you're wasting fuel? Consider that it took fuel to get the vehicle up to that speed. Now you're moving along at 75 mph, and you have to exit on to another road. You slam on the brakes in order to get to the slower speed required for the turn-off, wasting considerable fuel. How to mitigate??? Easy enough. When turning off onto another road, simply take foot off gas far ahead enough to coast up to the turnoff. Next: read the traffic light. If you see the light a half mile ahead, consider what it will be when you get there. If it's red, peddle off and coast up to it. If it's green, did it just turn? If it's green when you're half mile or more out, will it still be...., you know. With bit of practice one gets better at this. If a driver wants to pass me in order to get ahead at the red light, go ahead! The main thing is to respect the speed limit. Doing so on some city and some of the heavy traffic rural roads might get some middle fingers, honks, shaking fists, etc. but t'hell with them. Now, back to my beloved 2011 Ford F10, with the V8 engine, I can squeeze out 20 miles per gallon, or very close to it by doing the above. BTW, I considered starting a new thread for this, but here seemed appropriate. Also, I hope I didn't miss spellings and grammar flaws in my proofreading. As I mentioned elsewhere, it's easy to miss mistakes in one's own writing.
All of that is well and good, but I'd venture to guess that most drivers "our age" are already driving slower than most. Plus that "take your foot off the gas and coast" might work as long as you aren't tail-gated by some angry idiot with nothing to lose. People are crazy, and road rage is a thing. We all have to drive sensibly, and in a manner conducive to road conditions and traffic flow. I see the democrats now are blaming the oil companies for price gouging. Idiots.
If I'm in an abusive relationship, I'm gonna get rid of the abuser, not learn how to do bandages better. The prices have been done to us, they are not the result of an "energy shortage." I got diesel for my tractor today. $5.04/gallon. Thanks, democrats. I'm glad you all ran for office to destroy a country you obviously hate. Been fishing lots and shooting pistol matches here plus trying to get as many of my medical checks done asap, I get out very much in the bad weather as it keeps the weekend idiots at home mostly! Per topic title we are over 400% since the election highest I have personally seen is $5.97 in Dallas Tx up 1.00 since the last time there at a dental appointment, THANKS JB! WE knew it would go up, when it would and all came true and then some more.
It has worked before. People who vote for Democrats aren't known to be critical thinkers, so the pols think the old tricks will continue to work. Only time will give us the answer.
First off…I am ok. I was robbed at the Chevron in Charlottesville. After my hands stopped trembling I managed to call the Sheriff, they were quick to respond and calmed me down. All my money is gone…the police asked me if I knew who did it. I said yes.. it was Pump Number 5.
I don’t drive but gasoline were $3.99 this week but my home fuel really jumped. It went from about $29.00 to over $119.00 a month, now for two months in a row.
As an aside, has anyone tried putting diesel in with your gasoline to increase mileage. I remember folks saying that a little diesel will increase your mileage remarkably. I wouldn't try it on newer vehicles, but I may try it on my old truck--about one pint per 30 gallon fill up. Theoretically , it should work unless the engine knocks, then back to the drawing board. Gas here is approaching $5.00 per gallon.
