This subject is a HOT one in my life, my poor daughter was given statins in her 40's ... she was led to a BAD drug pusher doctor...she had no clue back then. She deals with collapsed tendons in her feet, one foot worse than the other... A homeopathic pharmacist led her to this finding, when he asked her if she took statins when she showed him her feet......she didn't even go to the statin connection....she was getting a horrible indoctrination into the pharma drug world back then. Along the path we found the doc she was going to is a well known "writer" in our area. He got her hooked in to help build his practice... Her life is so destroyed from this doctor and my heart breaks for her. List of Statin Side Effects Here is a link from Weston Price Foundation https://www.westonaprice.org/health...MIoYXnrf369gIVjh6tBh3msQ9VEAAYASAAEgI3NvD_BwE Connecting the Dots with Statins and Tendon Injuries https://www.aacp.org/article/connecting-dots-between-statins-and-tendon-injuries
OMG, what a dangerous drug. I just re-read the Weston Price link again. The Price Foundation are a Solid Group and know t heir oils.
They hand statins out like candy around here and there is no proof they prevent blockages or strokes.
i have a pretty good idea of the steps to be taken in order to ameliorate the damage already incurred. it would take months but with the proper customized plant protein diet i'm confident she can regain a lot of the tissue damage if not all. my last assignment involved a person with rls. she also had a lot of other issues stemming from or possibly causing but definitely complicating the issue (acid reflux, neuralgia, etc.) but my focus was on the caregiver who was stressed and struggling with ocd. you see, i am actually a caregiver's caregiver. so i juggled both. oddly enough the caregiver lost control when the stress of the job was suppressed by my precence. her client on the other hand made a great recovery... bed bound and delusional in september, but was up and about in good spirits by december. we even danced the lindy at the senior christmas social. i would attribute much of her succes to improved diet high in bioavailable iron.
Big Pharma and their Big Plans for Big Money...on this cholesterol issue, which came first, inventing cholesterol or the drug and then the so called issue....my parents lived into 90's and ate everything and the word cholesterol was NEVER a word back in the days. My integrative doc tested my Homocystein over 15 yrs ago and it were elevated and I've taking supps to reduce the homocystein -- this issue COULD BE a real heart issue. Docs want to treat health issues $$$$ no prevention in their lives.... They are handed out like candy everywhere, statins that is. I count on Grape Seed Extract which cleans and thins the blood .... it's said NOT to take it if one takes a pharma blood thinner.
I know my sign is aquarius but I don't know my cholesterol nor triglycerides. Back in the 70's that was enough.
Probably none of my parents' generation knew any cholesteroal numbers, perhaps there were no tests back then....I think the big testing and numbers started in 70-80's...
Cholsterol numbers were adopted on purpose for making money, not for health or healthy or honest reasons at all. Russian tests on mice, giving the mice thousands of times an amount of something more than they would ever get in a lifetime were mis-used to deceive the amican doctors and the public. Honest doctors before then and since then know better, if they sought a proper education - it has been available for over a century. They know that those manipulated numbers as well as what is done with the numbers is just to increase profits for the shareholders in the drugmakers business.
I've never taken them, never been offered them and do not worry about the cholesterols fears thrown around out there in the world. A wise doctor I saw for some years was more interested in Homocysteine and she tested me there and I had elevated numbers, so went to work on that. And fear all the statins pushed on mega amounts of the population are the cause of advanced memory loss and the dementia and alzheimers out there. And all the poor people propped up in old age homes and others who don't know who they are or where they are. Tragic all the damage from certain drugs being pushed. STORY AT-A-GLANCE Widespread myths about lowering your cholesterol with statins to improve your heart health still permeate modern medicine A comprehensive review of the literature, published in 2018, found that LDL cholesterol does not cause heart disease, so statins’ ability to lower LDL is of dubious value Over a five-year period, taking a statin once you’ve had a heart attack will only increase your life expectancy by four days Just like COVID-19, they manipulated the statistics and grossly exaggerated statin benefits by conflating relative and absolute risks. If you take a statin, your chance of a heart attack is only 1.1% lower than if you're not taking it: that is your absolute, not relative, risk Even though public health perpetuates the notion that lower LDL cholesterol is better, there’s no consistent relationship between lowering LDL with statins and death, heart attack or stroke https://articles.mercola.com/sites/...ore&cid=20230527&cid=DM1406404&bid=1811731695
I've always refused statins & blood thinners. Statins were pushed on me as soon as I was diagnosed with diabetes at 55 (15 years ago) I read unbiased studies (not generated by drug companies) that said cholesterol levels have nothing to do with heart disease risk; heart disease is just as prevalent in people that have low or high cholesterol levels. At my diabetes chat group, we discussed statins, since they are pushed on diabetics, as well as anyone over 50. A retired pharmacist sat next to me. He got very angry with me when I said I don't take statins or other "protective" drugs because I didn't think they were beneficial or worth the risk. He got even more angry when I brought documents that described the possible side effects. I wasn't surprised; most medical professionals get angry when people don't "Follow the program or say anything negative about their career." He was a fit, 70 year old tennis player & he said he had been taking statins for a few years without harm. I said, "Good; that's your choice; I have my choice." He missed the next few meetings & when he came back, he was in a wheelchair & had a full-time nurse with him. He described what happened: He was relaxing, watching TV & when he tried to get up, his legs wouldn't work & he fell onto the floor. He wasn't able to even crawl, so no bathroom, no water, no food - all very dangerous for a diabetic. Since he lived alone, it took 4 days before his son found him, barely alive. He spent several weeks in a convalescent home. After he was released & couldn't deal with being a permanent invalid who enjoyed an active life, he stopped attending meetings. No one ever heard from him again & he likely committed suicide. Muscle damage issues are a well-known side effect of statins; I have some elderly friends who stopped taking them (against their doctors' advice) for that reason when they started to experience similar problems that started with leg pains - that their doctors attributed to "Getting Older."
My parents generation ate everything and there was no such word as cholesterol uttered yet statins. Both parents lived to 90's....dad's heart just would not give up at the end, he wanted to go but heart kept pumping.
I recently saw my PCP because I was having horrible muscle spasms in my chest and upper back. It was debilitating and probably another happy side-effect from radiation treatment for cancer, the gift that keeps on giving. The very first thing the NP asked me was if I am taking a statin. (Of course my medical record was on the screen in front of her, but whatever.) My answer was "NO," and for the exact same reasons as you. Years ago I read the study about heart disease and statins so I've resisted them ever since.
I don't believe I ever saw rhabdomyolysis before stains were introduced. After much of the population were taking them, I saw about one case per month coming through the hospital where I worked that were serious enough to require hospitalization. I have seen some documentation that showed that statins lowered cardiac death by a small amount, largely IMO due to the anti-inflammatory effects of the drugs. That same documentation showed that the all-cause mortality of those on statins was considerably higher than those not on statins. Only one form of the LDL has anything to do with atherosclerosis and that is rarely tested for. @Joy Martin mentioning homocysteine levels agrees with what I have posted elsewhere. Supplementation with B vitamins, particularly Folate and Pyridoxine, reduce homocysteine at little to no risk and little cost.
