https://www.theepochtimes.com/senat...e&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=mb-2020-10-01 From the article: “However, following repeated and consistent reports of political bias, and the suppression of certain viewpoints, I fear that Section 230’s sweeping liability protections for big tech are stifling a true diversity of political discourse on the Internet,” he added, pointing to Pew Research surveys that show a majority of U.S. adults say it’s likely that social media sites censor political viewpoints.
After reading the article, am I correct to think that it is the political candidates who are disgruntled with these CEOs censorship?
I would take every word printed by these folks with a very large grain of salt. They were the second largest donor to the trump campaign and are strong supporters of both the French and the German far right. They received 900,000 dollars from Renaissance Technology a hedge fund led by conservative donor Robert Mercer,Chris Kitze who created the fake news website,"Before it is News" and operates a cryptocurrency hedge fund became vice president in 2017. Iguess it could be considered news for someone that live in an echo chamber, and caress only to validate their already formed opinions. As for the rest of us, I will find other more straight news sources.
It looks to me like most of the news agencies from both sides are reporting the same thing about the Senate subpoenas for the tech company CEO’s, @Peter Renfro .
Peter is right. Their opinions and news must be carefully scrutinized. The Epoch Times also has a close connection to Falun Gong, who are extremely right-wing and anti anything Chinese Communist Party. The investigative site The Grey Zone (Gray?) has information on this. Falon Gong was intensely suppressed in China. Their response was to become very right-wing where they had been sort of apolitical. I suppose that's not an unexpected outcome. The GrayZone also has much revealing information about Wikipedia. After you read it you'll never trust that site again. https://thegrayzone.com/2020/06/11/...edia-foundations-regime-change-operative-ceo/
I couldn't guess, Von. Pressure from their constituents or their own personal experience being censored - maybe some of both.
Says the guy who doesn't believe anything unless it's on CNN. Who does CNN, the Washington Post, New York Times, and the rags whose words you accept as face contribute to, I wonder? No, I don't really wonder. 97% of mainstream media contributions go to Democrat candidates. Setting financial support aside, every word they broadcast or print should be reported as in-kind contributions to Democrat candidates.
No Facebook is a perfect example of private enterprise. The owner has no obligation except to his stock holders.
Well, you’re almost right. Face Book is not an enterprise (legally) but rather, it is a company on the open market. And yes, Mark via his staff can and does have control of what is written on his form of social media however biased that may be. And, even though Face Book does have ties to government entities it does not have to comply with government oriented censorship laws unless it is about race.
An interesting thing happened tonight. At just after 5:30 (eastern), Twitter went down, and was down for about an hour. Some of the information showed a graph of when it went off, and the map had major areas that were affected. I also watched a strange little video that someone posted on Twitter, at the same time, but from a different time zone. It showed a backhoe toppling over a power line tower, and said “Time2do”. Since Twitter has more and more been banning conservative accounts, even high-ranking accounts, it makes you wonder if the outage and the tweet were connected, and someone knew it was going to happen ? I can’t show the video, but here is a screenshot of the tweet that someone posted on facebook. I watched the video several times, and thought it must be relevant to something, but had not even heard of the Twitter outage at that time, and probably would not have connected the two of them if I had not read the facebook post about it.
Some news channels are saying that there were areas worldwide where Twitter went down, not just in the United States. here is the down detector map showing the main areas here that were affected, and some parts were done much longer than other areas.
Did the media giants just lose their protection 230 and now everyone can sue them??? FCC Will Remove Sec 230 Protections by Rule Change,
The news is reporting that Billionaire Elon Musk just bought Twitter shares, and he is now the largest Twitter shareholder, and was just appointed to the board of directors. Everyone is speculating on whether this will affect how Twitter is being run, since many conservative voices have been banned from posting there, while liberals are encouraged. I have seen several of the larger accounts complain that Twitter as taking followers away from them. I do not know if that is true or not, because I hadn’t been checking to see how many followers they had in the first place, and so far, I am still following everyone that I was following. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and if we have more of the conservative Twitter members allowed back on the platform. They banned President Trump when he was a president in office, which shows how far Twitter was going to ban conservatives. Possibly now, more conservative millionaires will also buy twitter stock, so they can add their votes to Elon Musk.
