I agree with your opinion regarding "deviation from the norm." My normal temp is 97.9, and I believe that 98.6 as "typical" is being called into question. I've had temps around 99.5 when I've felt "under the weather." We're not all the same. Did you doctor friend mention if she and her husband had a fever with this thing? You might want to go to the walk-in clinic tomorrow (the one your wife went to) just to get a second set of eyes on this. Your temp doesn't sound crisis-high, and I guess some bugs can go longer than a week, but if they close on Sundays you won't want to suffer until Monday if they can get some meds in you. What a pain.
Since my wife had what is almost assuredly the same thing and she's feeling much better today, I expect I'll come out of it within a few days.
She got a different diagnosis than I did, for what seems to be the same disease. Other than the Covid test, no tests were done to determine her diagnosis, whereas lab cultures were done for me. At the time that my diagnosis was made, she wasn't feeling any better. Convinced that the walk-in clinic was wrong about her diagnosis, she took the same things I've been taking, since it was all OTC. Plus, of course, I was seen by an actual doctor, whereas she saw either a nurse practitioner or a physician's assistant. Her diagnosis was bacterial, whereas mine was viral. Antibiotics won't work on a virus.
Yeah, I know that antibiotics don't have any effect on a viral infection, but based on your wife's diagnosis and recovery I was thinking it wouldn't hurt to try it. We just want you to feel better.
This is the last I'll say because you're not feeling well... Deduced by lab work or practitioner opinion?
Mine - lab work Her's - guesswork I am well aware that nurse practitioners and physician's assistants are often amazingly good at what they do, but this particular problem seems (to me) to be something that might more accurately be diagnosed through lab work.
Well, we're just going to nag you and state the obvious until you throw up your hands and go to the walk-in clinic.
What a difference a night makes. I woke up this morning feeling much better. The congestion is breaking, although still there, there is barely a hint of a sore throat, and my temperature is 96.9, which is lower than usual. I still don't have much of a voice, so my singing tour will probably have to be put on hold, but I think I'm on the downside of this. The headache is still very annoying, however, and I don't usually get headaches.
That's mostly good news. I've not heard you sing, so I'll decide later whether your delayed tour is a blessing or a loss. That 96.9 might be your normal "I just woke up" temp, unless you already know what it should be. When I did a lot of bike riding, I'd keep a pulse oximeter by my bed just to see how slow my heart rate was upon waking, but I've not checked my temp at that time of day. I might go put my thermometer on my nightstand so I can check it tomorrow AM...it would be a good thing to know.
Ken, if there was a vaccine that would keep you from getting that sick again, would you take it? I would and whatever else it required. Even if I wouldn't die, I never, never want to be that sick again. That's why I take the flu shot every year.
If I trusted that it would do so without doing more harm than good, I would, but I can no longer trust this.
