Growing up, throughout grade school, I was always the shortest kid in the class. In today's world, would I have been considered "vertically challenged", and therefore eligible for special help, maybe therapy, or perhaps compensation for enduring the ribbing of classmates? Frank
I was always the tallest until about 6th grade when I quit growing at 5'4". How I hated being tall then, now I wish I was 3 inches taller! Nobody felt sorry for me when I had to start kindergarten and didn't know a word of English. I had to learn or else. No choice and no special treatment or any help.
@Chrissy Page : What language did you learn as a youngster, before English? Our profile pages around here "give away" very little! Frank
I was the third tallest kid in my class in third or fourth grade, I remember in one class picture, but by the time I started high school, I had stopped growing at 5'5" and was close to being the shortest kid in class during high school. I'm pretty sure it was that cup of coffee that I drank at camp one time. It ruined my basketball career.
When I lived in Jacksonville, FL Maurice Jones Drew was very short and very fast on the Jaquars team...he certainly got me interested in the football game!
I was in Little League for two years and never caught a ball, and had only three hits: two singles and what I thought should have been a triple because I made it to third base, but which as recorded as a double, getting to third base on an error. I'm not sure why, but the scouts never contacted me. Their loss.
But did you give all the sports offered a shot? Some people seem to think they have to fit a certain image, etc. to be a certain thing or be good at something when it's more a mind conquering thing...if that makes any sense.
I found I actually liked a good challenge whether it was verbally expressed or just society's standard. After all, I am a mother of 3 beautiful daughters from my womb...when my Doctors told me it wasn't going to happen!
Can we reveal dirty jokes here? I didn't read the contractuals, rather depending on Membership divine guidance.
To offset my short height, I drove myself to the limit in a few sports, baseball and weightlifting. No one my age could hit a ball, nor throw it, as far as I could, no matter their size. The guys gave me due respect for that. The girls,....well,.....not so much. They wanted "jocks".
I guess it depends on whether it is going to have to go straight to the trash can or not...but since it's after the rated GP audience go for it if you feel the need. I'll take it out to the trash if it offends me.
Probably they wanted what their parents and society labeled "jocks"...to bad they might have missed out on life's best by society's labeling!
