Sadly these fake teeth don't go in my mouth because dentists are unable to make them fit right and even stick with glue, so I will be gumming the pie. Since I use just the upper for my crimping tool, that means my crust crimper is a $3000 kitchen gadget.
I'd like an expert opinion. Is this a spoon or a crochet hook? Has anyone seen one like it? Don't remember where it came from. I've been using it as a spoon for years.
That's an odd thing. It's almost as though you could hang it to dry on a piece of string set up like a clothesline. I wonder if the end was used to lift hot lids or pull hot pans/sheets out of the oven. A quick search on "wooden spoon with crochet hook [or notched] handle" yields no germane results. I bet someone once dropped something behind the stove or fridge and cutting that notch was the best way to retrieve whatever it was.
It does look like the notch may have been added after the fact. Could the notch in the handle be used to keep the spoon from falling into a pot? Here's something similar on eBay. Here's another, so I guess it was a thing.
It does look like it might have been carved out later, but it's a neat job if so. Might as well kill 2 birds with one spoon. Rather than make a funny looking hook, might as well make a crochet hook. Then you could make a rug, stop and taste the stew and your hook wouldn't fall in the pot.
The notch is for hanging on a line or wire. It makes it easy to hang and remove. I cut similar hooks in some of my carving tools that I hang on a strip of copper. Ken is right that the one he shows is a pot hook.
Another "must have." A yeast spoon....because everyone knows it's hard to measure out 2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast. What a life saver! (Got mine today.)
That's actually a good thing...a "packet." I've been thinking of getting these magnetic nesting spoons because getting a single measuring spoon off of the clip-ring is killin' my buzz, man. They've been sitting in my Wish List for almost a month, so I guess I got some impulse control.
Yeah, I don't buy packets anymore since I'm a bakin' fool. One pound packages, man! My measuring spoons are just loose in the drawer; I can't deal with that ring.
I bought a bunch of these and put my spoons on one. I've yet to buy 1# of yeast, but I've been buying the jars for a longtime.
