I had a good Cinco de Mayo day. I paid my Homeowners Insurance bill, $1508.00, paid Master Card a bunch of money because
I've been putting groceries on it and having them delivered to my door, if you haven't done that before you'll find you're spending
more. I paid my house keeper. She's good but she ain't cheap. And to top it off my sweet wife went out and bought herself a new
haring aid. And somebody a while back asked if I gambled. What with? I'm so far in the hole I'll never get out. And besides all that
I haven't paid my utilities. No doubt that's Guthery or somebody wrote and sang "Working Man Blues." Yes, sir, I had a fine 5th of
    May.

Well, don't feel bad, Bill. Yesterday, we paid (completely) roundtrip/nonstop for airline tickets to Las Vegas this coming December. Tickets, great reclining seats and luggage cost. Reserved a hotel room for four nights at the Mirage. That cost us a refundable deposit. And, reserved a rental car for four days. All for a major rodeo. But, then again, nine chances out of ten, this will be our last trip to Las Vegas.

Today is Cinco de Mayo. We plan on ordering a Mexican dinner for pickup at local Mexican Restaurant. Get home and I'll make my famous (LOL) margarita's, turn on YouTube and watch some Cinco de Mayo Mexican dancing.

Sent an IM to my SIL (wife's sister) telling her "Cinco de Mayo is this Thursday" and she IM me back saying, "It's also National Prayer Day". She doesn't drink or party, so I should've expected that reply from her. But, that's ok.

I didn't go through the entire thread to see if someone already mentioned this (I stopped looking after the 5th Corona joke), but only one state in Mexico celebrates this day. The state of Puebla celebrates Mexico's 1862 victory over the French army at The Battle of Puebla (just as Louisianans might celebrate Jackson's 1815 victory over the British at the Battle of New Orleans), but the rest of our respective nations could not care less.

So in honor of Puebla, I'm gonna stay in my pueblo. Maybe I'll make some crêpes and pommes frites and surrender myself to the day.

We just wish my post #21 was here. Don Juan's in Jacksonville, Florida really, really went "all out" for Cinco de Mayo. Almost unbelievable how many people showed up at this restaurant. And, restaurant management and owner had local P.D. on the street to direct traffic into the parking lot. We were lucky in that we have a Handicap Placard and was about to get up-front parking. Cinco de Mayo is quite the event there.

    Here, not so.

Funny, Florida has an Hispanic population (Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba, Columbia, Puerto Rico), but there's no ties to Mexico. The only thing I've been to that mirrors your Don Juan experience was St. Patrick's Day at a dive where I was on their dart team. They served 10¢ green draughts. I know I spent more than $1, and was only upright due to the place exceeding legal capacity. I don't recall seeing any Irish about. For that matter, I don't recall St. Valentine having an affinity for flowers or chocolate, either.

    Yay, capitalism.
