My roommate got a bouquet of roses and lilies ans a few smaller flowers I know not what. Too there is some pretty greenery I don't know what it is but its pretty andmixes well. My photo does it no justice. Still lilies yet to open .
I got out this morning, first time in a week or so. Went out to get some Jimmy Dean Hot sausage for my roommate and a box of everything Ritz crackers. She can handle both if she cooks the sausage soft.. For whatever reason I dropped and broke five cups the past two or three weeks. Dropped them in the sink while doimg dishes. I have broken all my China cups I use for coffee and tea, so while I was out I headed to the Salvation Army store for new cups. I picked out two cups. I liked the shape and they hold a full eight ounces. I also bought a couple of round handleless tea cups. Got them home, washed them in hot soapy water, rinsed them and dried them, rather proud of myself, I was, for my four dollar purchase. Roommate walks in and asked, why I bought the small bowls? Those are tea cups, I protested. She insist they're pudding bowls. Whatever their original purpose, they are now and forever more tea cups, until I break them. One cup says, MINE, the other, HERS. Come to think of it, MINE would look good filled with chocolate pudding. It may have to do double duty. My younger brother went to the hospital two weeks after being diagnosed with pneumonia. He had fluid in his lungs. The day day after being admitted, he had a heart attack in the hospital, He had a triple bypass and they replaced a valve not working. They put him into an induced coma while machines kept his heart and lungs working. He is finally off the machines. He can't walk yet and his mind and memory is beginning to come back. They want to release him to therapy but won't until they can get his blood count up. He's having a heck of a time down there in the Arlington, Tx hospital. Got my fingers crossed for him. I realize I am rambling and this should go somewhere else, but don't know where.
The new cups sound nice, no matter what you use them for. My best wishes for a full recovery to your brother.
The flowers are lovely Bill - we had similar given to us a couple of years back, when we came to take them from the vase, (they were done blooming) - some droplets came off the lilies onto the carpet, staining the carpet We tried our best to remove the stain left behind, there is still a faint mark there. So be careful when removing the flowers, make sure paper is right beside the vase Good wishes to your Brother for a full recovery
@Bill Boggs I am all for using some things outside their purpose. Your rambling is well justified. Glad to hear your brother is out of the coma.
We have had trouble with our roses blooming here. They do not get enough sunshine, and it just gets too hot for them in the summer, it seems like. In the spring, they all start off looking good, and then stop blooming once summer gets here. This year, the neighbor cut down the trees next to us, so we have more sun in the yard, and we planted two more roses. One of them is a beautiful mix of oranges , yellows, and pink. And it just had the first blossom of the year. The blossom is small, but beautiful ! Hoping that the bush grows and has lots more blossoms this year.
When I got my first apartment it had a great southern exposure, so I started to teach myself some botany. I would buy houseplants and write down their binomials on popsicle sticks and stick them in the pots. At 40 I took botany during night classes at college. The stuff is amazing. Plants are miraculous. They are also beautiful.
This seems to be a spring with just the right mix of sunshine and rain, at least so far. All of the irises bloomed, and now the roses are blooming around the yard. I ordered some rooting powder, and i am going to take some cuttings of the roses and see if I can get them to propagate. I took pictures while they are blossoming, and am labeling them when I take the cuttings, so hopefully, I will know which rose will be which. This is a picture of the ones in our driveway.
Isn't that LOVELY! I have been trying to naturalize plants in the woods surrounding our house so I would not have to bother with them when I am old and could still enjoy them. I have daffodils and virginia blue bells, wood hyacinths now and soon triliums will be blooming. Tulips didn't work. then a few small beds have something blooming at all times. The lillies and tulips work well in those if the rabbits and deer don't prune them for me. And peonies with hostas. This year seems to be a good blooming year. The fruit trees look great too! Wish I did pix but my flip phone leaves something to be desired.
no time for many flowers last couple years, lately its just Canna Lili's, umbrella plant other perennials that don't need any care, most work is now veggie, hens, dogs and property upkeep, trails, vines grass. I do want to start more annuals soon though I miss our flowers.
OK, this is for John and his fear of wild vegetables and Dwight. I like nettle more, this lambsquarters grows almost everywhere and is still good above the Mason Dixon line. It is edible later but I like it less, then. I would think everyone has seen it--maybe not Faye in the high desert. Use like spinach.
Now the Lillies are starting to bloom ! My favorite golden one is just loaded with blossoms, hoping the rain doesn’t ruin them before they can all get a chance to open up and bloom.
