Hubby and I did this dance a couple months ago, only the two of us but it was fun. !958 vs 1968 differences,
Very good first time I heard this version they do a good job, I always went to Sam Cooke for this song, he had such an easy smooth voice.
My hubby knew that this was one of my favorite songs so when we finally could afford a record player, he bought it as the first record we had. We would dance to it or, more exactly, stand there and just hold each other as we slowly moved. I still get teary eyed when I hear it after all these years.
This song always make me happy too. I lived right down the street from Uncle Remus house aka Chandler House http://www.uncleremusmuseum.org/
I remember when I took my children to see Song of the South, I remember my youngest getting upset when one of the kids was pushed in the mud puddle. What a shame that they banned it.
Tony here is a short story about the Uncle Remus stories. These stories go all the way back to Africa when they were slaves in Africa that continued when they were came here. They were story's about over coming slavery and mistreatment from those more powerful than you. It surprising they would ban their history about overcoming.
My wife and I found nothing in the movie That was cause to have it banned. Awhile back I went to the Disney Store to purchase a DVD and was told it just wasn't out of print but banned also. I search eBay, other stores I could not find a copy, however it wasn't banned in England you could get a copy from England at a ridiculous price, so I never pursued it any longer.
Seems we look for things to be upset about now a days, did you see the movie " Kissing Cousins" about Appalachian Mountain people? Why people of the south ? Because although incest happens everywhere but they like to pretend only ignorant southerner's do it. Either way I liked the movie staring Elvis, just like I liked Songs of the South. This song brings back good memories,
Song of the South I heard that Disney had banned it so I downloaded it and found nothing racist about it. Im in England so had no trouble getting it. Why its banned in America and not abroad makes no sense.
