This is what is being reported currently: It is being confirmed that the elementary school shooter was born in North Dakota, but moved to the Texas border town and had gone to both the elementary school that he killed at and local high school.

We members here have to do is........wait for more information, before posting incorrect information. But, when reading different information, it's easy to post incorrect information.

Another thing we have to remember, mass shootings just didn't start. What about all of mob shootings during the Prohibition days in Chicago and the killings in Vegas from mob bosses.

I home schooled for a while until the school convinced me that my daughter would miss out on socialization. I should not have listened.
The materials available for home schooling are amazing! one on one attention. And I found half the time spent in school was spent on busywork.

Well, it's like I stated that not every family can home school and there's families the don't want to.

Bottom Line: Things happen at school from stabbings, to serious fights and shootings. Shootings have been done by a student, not from someone from outside the school. So, in order to stop shooting, every single student would have to walk thru a screening process, like at an airport. That would cost schools tons of dollars and take quite a bit of time.

Of course Teachers Unions are totally against home schooling, right? I mean, if you were a teacher, how would you feel being without a job? And, what about at colleges/universities. Can a parent home school college classes?

But, I do know how you feel.

@Cody Fousnaugh my niece lives in Kansas, and she along with other mothers there have home schooled their kids for years. Every year they are given the option of going to public school- nope not interested.
I realize they are an exception ,but it can be done. I will add they live 40 -45 miles from nearest town.

But, do the kids get the right education they would in a school? Many school officials could definitely say "no". And, the parent, or family member, has to have the right "state of mind" to teach at home. Teaching takes patience and knowledge. An elementary school teacher just doesn't walk into a school and start teaching. It takes a whole of education and that's why many teachers have a Masters Degree.
And, what about those in college/universities/tech schools? You didn't say anything about them students.

I am not going to drag this out.. so in answer to your questions- yes they can and do get a good education. Just because someone has a degree does not mean they know jack crack about anything ! Plus teachers today have way more to contend with than just kids education. There are exceptions to everything . There are no home school teaching for college, university, or tech schools Cody, i was talking about kids not grown people.

Heidi, don't get upset with me about home schooling. I have two Special Education teachers in my wife's family. Her sister (78) retired as a teacher and her daughter (our niece) is currently a teacher. Both have Masters Degrees. Neice got hers from Pepperdine University and wife and I were there when she graduated.

I would never/ever put down anyone with a college degree.........never! My wife got her Bachelors in Accounting/Business when she was 49. She found out she would get a much higher salary, like sure currently is at home, if she had a Bachelors Degree. I only wish that I would have had the patience to stay in college and, at least, get an AA.

It's easier than ever today, as there are several online curricula that can be used to either supplement a parent's own material or used in its entirety, and way more people are working from home today than ever before. There are also large numbers of people who aren't working at all. In fact, the Democrat's COVID nonsense forced people to prove that they could homeschool for quite some time.

Although I wouldn't choose a public virtual school, they are available pretty much everywhere now, and they would have at least the advantage of being able to monitor the nonsense they're teaching your kids.

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to see a few examples of the nonsense.

Well, THEM students, do most of their advanced education online these days, especially during the pandemic. I know one homeschooled (0-12) young lady who this fall will receive her Masters after 3 1/2 years of mainly online study with a top-rated University. I have several homeschooled cousins that went on to get college degrees and run successful businesses that are worth several million. They also have homeschooled their kids and grandkids many of who are now in college, some online, and a couple in medical school that requires in-person learning.

I propose that homeschooled kids score higher on college entrance exams than 90% of public school-educated kids. Exchange students from places like Germany are set back two years by attending high school for one year in the USA. Our public schools are a failure and getting worse. Why do you think so many medical doctors are from other countries? Our public schools have not only failed to educate but failed to keep our kids safe from harm.

The teacher's unions are not to help the teachers, but to control them. The teacher's unions are all Democratic party controlled.

Any good parent has the right state of mind to teach at home. In many cases, the parent learns along with the student. I know one homeschooling parent, that quit school after the 8th grade, that homeschooled her twins and they all received High School diplomas together.

Homeschooling is impossible for some parents, but with vouchers that the Democrats oppose, these parents could send their kids to a private school where a superior education would be received. Public schools are all about the money they receive from the state for each and every student.[/QUOTE]

Boy do you have problems with Democrats! One thing for sure, you're not one. But, that is fine.

Home schooling is fine, but, obviously, not every parent in America wants there kids to be home-schooled, or there would be no classrooms or schools (1-12) going. There are many parents that either don't want to do it or, financially, can't do it.

Teachers go to college and get a major degree for a reason...........so they can learn what they are teaching. Neither my niece or her mom like home-schooling, but then again, one is a retired teacher and the other is an active teacher.

Damn tooting I do! When I see a group trying to destroy my country I get my hackles up! When they try to silence opposing voices that marked them as Nazis. Another Nazi badge goes to the Democrats for using elementary school kids who were murdered senselessly as a weapon to get their gun laws passed knowing that if they do, the only ones having guns will be the criminals. They didn't care about the mass killing of old folks (estimated at over 13,000 in New York) placed by the dozens back in assisted living after testing positive for covid. It meant nothing to any of them. Even an empty hospital ship was available, thanks to Trump. It was an intentional killing by Cuomo.
