According to Hinduism Sanjeevani is a magical herb which has the power to cure serious nervous system problems. It was believed that medicines prepared from this herb could revive situations where death is almost certain.

I have never heard of it. Here is a somewhat detailed explanation as to how the root "swims."

Isn't there a song that mentions it in its refrain? I think it's by The Human League.

    Sanjeevani, baby,
    Sanjeevani, ohohohoh.....

It definitely cures the common cold.
Make a tea out of crushed and dried root and 7 to 10 days later you no longer have a cold.

Ah. I can do that with crushed and dried spinach, to the same effect. Then again, I think I could use crushed and dried anything, and be done with a cold in 7 to 10 days, since my colds only last 2 to 3 days, if that. I haven't had one for, about, five years. (My apologies for my semi-snarky reply, here, if yours was meant as a joke.)

Different people have colds last different amount of times. My summer colds if I should catch one last 2 to 3 weeks, with the tail end of it not as severe but still annoying. As far as treatment goes to shorten a cold, some people swear by hot toddies, chicken soup, echinacea, me personally I like overdosing on vitamin C. Just for info you really can't overdose on vitamin C whatever is not used by the body is pass through your system.

That's funny, I stick dandelions up my arse to the same degree of efficacy...and passing wind leaves a trail of florets as a bonus.

I think Mr Cole was being a smart butt by saying "Do anything and wait long enough, and your cold will be cured."

I wasn't sure, because people take anything to get rid of a cold.

I recall the worse cold I think I ever had, and I fixed it by taking a recommended concoction of:

    -3 fingers lemon juice
    -3 fingers Jack Daniels
    -3 fingers hot water
    -Honey

I filled a tub with hot water, got in, drank that, and woke up some time later all wrinkled and in a tub of lukewarm water. I stumbled to bed and slept for 12 hours more. Then I was cured. Benny Hinn couldn't have done a better job.

My old GP, a very good guy, now retired, whom I had to give up, back in the Obama health plan days ("You can keep your doctor"- - -Uh, no...), told me that 95% of all clients seen have "ailments" that will self-resolve in under two weeks time, if only those having them would rest up, eat healthy foods and use common sense. Yep.........

Back in the 60s I read & followed books by Adelle Davis a popular nutritionist at the time. She suggested overdosing on vitamin C will reduce the time a cold virus stays in your system. Supposedly vitamin C Tightings up the tissue walls so that the virus can't penetrate.
For me this has worked, I remember having very heavy colds, I take vitamin C every hour for one day and the next day it was gone. I only take vitamin C made from rose hips, this is the natural form.

PS. I'd try the tub routine but I can't swim and I float like a rock. Haha

I do apologize for my slightly twisted bit of whit for I certainly didn’t mean to steer the thread into the direction of common cold cures.
    It just struck me that the proclaimed properties of the root were similar to Granny Clampet’s remedies one of which was her cold tonic;
Take one swig and 7 to 10 days later, the cold is gone.
If I remember correctly, most of her cures included moonshine as the base.

To be sure, I have no idea what the Sanjivani root can really do. If anything, it looks like something my grandmother would grab to use on my behind.

Pretty much. I always gave my colds a couple of weeks to wind down before worrying about seeing my doctor. And I knew what required immediate attention.

LOL !! ...... I prefer my way ........ a couple of shots of good whisky , beer chaser, and an hour or so of music to my choosing ..... 2-3 days later the "cold" was gone. Oddly enough, that was approx, 30 years ago .... haven't had a "cold" since.
