Illinois is also going to suspend the grocery tax for a year starting on July 1. Yep, that 1 percent is going to make a huge difference. That savings won't buy an exta gallon of milk for most people.

GEEEZE…….ours is 9% and the gas tax is 28%.
If me-maw Kaye Ivey would drop either one of them we’d start to be a little happier.

1 percent is on qualifying food items only. It does not cover much! The 1% tax does not include soft drinks, candy, fast food and more. I think those is around 6.25. And most other non food items sales taxes are county based and is usually up around 11%. Tax, tax, and more taxes!! Illinois has one of the highest taxes in the US, and the most corrupt politicians. It is the state where all the governors end up making the state license plates. :D

He's such a dumbass, even if he is only reading stuff someone else wrote for him. He wants the oil industry to invest in new refining capability while he is vowing to put them out of business??? Seriously. What a damn idiot.

Nah, it will be extended into December to try to fool folks. Then there will be an "Energy Subsidy" or something to try to buy more votes by printing more money and making everything worse in the long run. Wait for it.

If you persist in complaining about high gas prices and food shortages, you are going to anger our president and the Washington Post. The solution to bad management of the country is to refuse to acknowledge any of the results of bad management.

It is not just gasoline that has had the huge increases , but natural gas has also skyrocketed. I noticed that @Beth Gallagher was mentioning a natural gas whole house generator in a thread the other day, and then this morning i was looking at this chart that sows how much the cost has gone up just since a year ago (and it was even cheaper when Trump was in office).

Gas (methane) prices worry me most, as so many things from fertilizer to heating fuel and medication rely on natural gas . Most locations converted form coal to gas for electricity generation as a "green" fuel. It looks like much of Europe may be switching back to coal if they can this winter as Venezuela has now supposedly halted energy shipments to Europe.

I think it says a lot that we consider less than $4 per gallon a bargain. Remember when we were wondering if gas would ever reach $4 per gallon?

The Exxon station closest to my house is at $3.28 today. I see some places around Houston for $2.99.

I haven't noticed any increase in our natural gas bill at all so not sure how long those increases take to "filter down."

My house is total electric and I haven't noticed my bill going up...... yet. The power company has to go though ...... I forgot what they call it but they are supposed to look out for the interest of customers versus the power companies. I'm sure it will go up as soon as they ask.

Edit.... I think it's called the Utility Commission.

Our usage really increased this year with all the hot temps and no rain, though we are on "balanced billing" and pay the same amount each month. I'm sure our next true-up of the annual billing will result in an increase of our monthly payment.
