I'm assuming you use brown mustard, It's not honey or yellow.

First recipe I saw without mayo. Have you tried substituting the milk with half and half, or cream, or buttermilk? I just wonder how that would taste?

Thank you for the coleslaw recipes I will try all of them.
I just recently found a store bought coleslaw made by Black Bear, it was very good. My wife makes a decent coleslaw, however I'm trying to dupe black bear's taste, or find a better tasting one. I haven't found a coleslaw I don't like, but so far Black Bear is my favorite.

We like our cabbage chopped small as well. I use my food processor and get the consistency I like. I make a purple coleslaw with apples that goes well with pork or bbq Sandwiches....or anything in my opinion.:) We almost prefer it over the regular coleslaw. It's a creamy coleslaw.

Do you make it with Mayo?
I have seen in one of the deli a Hawaiian coleslaw, I think they use pineapples.

I've not messed with this recipe other than to add onions when I simmer it. When I was still going to church and participating in church events and Feed The Community stuff, I had the opportunity to make stuff like this pretty often and I tried a few different slaw recipes, from this recipe to the oil ones to the mayo ones. I've not had a need to tweak this recipe.

Regarding shredded cabbage size: I prefer mine to be shredded large (as though I were preparing it to make kraut), not that nearly-pureed stuff that KFC sells. Who wants to eat confetti?

Yeah unfortunately I need my cabbage cut very small even salads I get them chopped without going into a lot of detail I have a choking problem at least twice a year my windpipe get something stuck in it and I've had to have help, my daughter actually purchased a device used to suck out stuck food. When I'm choking and if you don't hear a sound means I'm completely blocked and don't have long before I'll pass out, this happened in IHOP once fortunately I was able to cough and slowly Clear My Throat.

Yes. I use Hellman's Real Mayonnaise. I do not use fat free, light, or Miracle Whip.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've had problems with stuff getting caught in my throat every once in a while (usually bits of hard stuff like carrots), but an endoscopy found no physical reason for it.

I've never gone to a doctor I have a fear of things put down my throat.
I can't breathe through my nose so it adds to my problem I've always had this underlying fear of suffocating I believe that's why I'm a little claustrophobic.

I'm not far behind you. I've suffered though MRIs because of a back-of-the-throat drip I get when my head is not propped up. I happened to mention this once, and they gave me a small pillow. Gee, why didn't I think of that before??

MRIs can be scary, I was going for a while every 3 months to do a brain scan to see if anything was there haha, they put your head in this man in the iron mask rig, I didn't like it. They were trying to see if a brain tumor I have had any growth. Not fun.

I had a CT scan through the Emergency Room when they thought I had a small stroke. The ER doctor came back and said "I lost the bet. You do have a brain!" To which I replied: "That's just like you guys. I've only been here an hour and you've already mixed my records up with someone else's."

I just thought of another thing I do with food that's probably not in any cookbook.
This works well with any pound cake it's simple and it's delicious.
Butter a slice of pound cake and then toast it, hot and delicious.

Well, I did eat a lot of wild game but never raccoon, woodchuck/ground hog, or possum, lol. But....My grandparents and parents ate cow tongue, kidneys, and brains. Ick! I did not eat the tongue or kidneys but I had to eat the brains as a kid, which I hated. We had to clean our plates before we were allowed to leave the table. They haven't sold cow brains in the locker plants/meat store for decades since mad cow disease became a thing. I think living through the Depression did not make a person picky about the food they ate.

Yum.... fresh wild blackberry pie! Mmmm I can still smell the scent of it baking in the oven. :) And wild blackberries taste nothing like tame berries. We use to pick them by the bucket full, as well as dewberries.
