Not sure this question belongs here. But I am getting a new phone. The one I have now cost $4. It is a tracfone flip phone. It is getting a little sticky. I can get texts but not send texts. Sometimes. This after dropping a phone into the toilet and losing one in the hay. Lint might be the issue. Not a big fan of putting too much intelligence into a phone so I have to pay for it. What makes a phone worth $1000? I looked at one that had facial recognition ($49)that I don't want. I need gps for the reunion trip to nowhere. But turned it off on my previous phone because I never go anywhere, normally and I don't want ads for restaurants etc popping up. I pay $109 a year for service. That will be going up, I was told...
I've not set up the facial recognition on mine. I don't want my biometric algorithms uploaded or hacked.
I use the facial recognition and I like it. For certain websites (such as MyChart for medical scheduling, etc.) I don't have to remember a password; it recognizes me and logs me on.
I have a face that no one could possibly forget but yet there are some programs on my Ipad that seem to do just that and I have to go back and re-establish who I am and why I’m there.
A down side is that a court case some months/years ago decided that the police could search your phone or tablet legally if only biometrics were involved, but they couldn't force you to give them your password without a warrant. Biometrics such as fingerprints and facial rec were deemed to be the same as mug shots and fingerprints.
