Teresa is not talking about the banana type of plantain, @Marie Mallery ; she is talking about the green plantain plant that grows literally everywhere, actually called “plantago”. It comes in two varieties, the round leaf and the long narrow leaf kind, and grows a stem with a seed head later in the summer.
It is from these seeds that we get psyllium, which is used for fiber. Here is a picture of the round leaf plantain.

Ph ok I'm not sure if we have any growing wild here but I'll sure check and see. Thanks for the correction Evonne. And thanks Teresa for the plant remedy.

No-see-ums here are gnats, not chiggers. The kind that buzz your ears and follow you everywhere.

Chiggers are mites. They inject a venom in your skin that dissolves the tissue. Then they suck it out and the mites drop off. The itching is caused by your body's allergic reaction to the injection and venom. By the time you notice the "bites" the chiggers are usually long gone.

They usually wander around your body for a short while at first looking for soft skin. The best thing to do is use insect repellant before you go out. Otherwise take a soapy shower asap if you think you might have been exposed to them, hopefully washing most of them off before they bite.

Oh my can't handle that anymore, now its beer or Crown. I'd prefer wine but it is expensive! Crown just one shot and that is usually plenty,on brave days maybe 2 shots.:D

Where did you live in S. Georgia, @Beth Gallagher ? Have I asked you that before? I moved here from Moultrie many years ago.

I was born in Berrien County outside of Nashville, Don. I think that's about 35 miles from Moultrie. I remember driving home to see my family with my Texas-born husband. He pronounced Moultrie "Mool-tare" and Valdosta was "Val-de-sota." :D:D

    THERE BACK!
Last week only had a couple bites, but last couple days I find more. All this damp rainy weather plus not mowing grass as often with hubbly working on both Junker's. Vân is down till he replaces the tension pulley bracket. So we are stuck here in the woods with no way to go. He had to drill out a bolt broke off that connects to engine. Got it out now has to put it back together,
So guess I'll just go itch and bear it.:( I put Damarious earth all over me. Used 2 tubes of Benadryl cream.

Hubby said " when you going to learn not to go into yard with shorts on". He hardly gets bit, he wears jeans.

I just got in shower, lathered up real good with sulfur soap and dressed wet lather and all. I didn't like the damarious earth on my skin, so I washed off. I just thought of another odium.

My encounter with chiggers was while visiting my East Texas aunt. That was over 60 years ago but the smell of sulfur still lingers. Those little devils have no respect for private parts.

Wear shorts but also wear thin nylon waist-high leggings under and thin nylon socks.

This young lady models how to dress cool (no pun intended)
in chigger country. Footed leggings are ideal for sandal wearers.
High boots (snake protection) may be an asset for working in the garden or yard.

Hubby got a bad case of them 30 years ago in North Georgia, but this is already disgusting and after thinking they were gone, I sit on porch and ankles start itching again so I throw dishwashing liquid and make a puddle where my feet are. We sit on porch to smoke and drink coffee and dogs visit us, wonder if they are bringing them?

You sure don't want them either, all this rain and humidity is chigger haven.
