I’m not really sure where to go with this nuance of UK science. By definition, sentience is merely having the ability to feel which I’m sure is shared by all biological specimens with nerve centers throughout the world. Since the word doesn’t have anything to do with the ability for rational thinking or emotions, I’m not really sure to what end the declaration that an octopus is a sentient being is or what the benefit of the study will produce. I mean, I have had no qualms in the past when grabbing a couple of lobster tails when they were on sale and after reading the sentience study I seriously doubt if my habit will change. Perhaps I could suggest a viable piece of research dealing with the feelings of a person who sticks his or her hand between me and my broiled lobster tail. Surely, a hand with a fork in it is more painful than that of a lobster upon losing it’s tail but I’ll leave that up to the scientists in the UK. https://www.thesized.com/united-kin...8Vr3KvFk5X1JL3_JiTGg1623ApTYp2UqrmEucGJtE46mo
I must say I never liked the way the lobsters screamed bloody murder when inserted into the boiling water, I usually left the room. Then again most of these crustacean's are meat eaters themselves. Just think they eat their prey alive. https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=494a...ZWxsZXRzJTIwYW5kJTIwZHJpZWQlMjBmb29kcy4&ntb=1
LOL…. If it will help, they do make noise but it’s not really screaming. Very similar to pursing your lips and whistling, the scream people hear is actually air escaping from under the shell. On the other hand, lobsters are known for being the “cockroach” of the sea because they will pretty much eat anything that can be eaten whether it’s alive or dead.
"They" are laying the groundwork for all of us to eat bugs & worms. And in the spirit of the Chinese who eat exotic animals to take on that critter's characteristics:
Seems these mental thinks there great. Then again, "Liberalism is a mental disorder, M.J.", Bon Appetit!
I had studied this decades ago but forgot. I found this on search, https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=a54d...Wx2ZXMlMjBvciUyMG1ha2UuLi4lMjBNb3JlJTIw&ntb=1
Octopi (I know they have largely changed it to "octopuses as Latin has died) are the most intelligent of the invertebrates and supposedly have the intelligence of a cat. Now if you consider cats to be sentient, and depending on how one measures intelligence, this could certainly be a fact.
I don't trust her or any of her loony buddies. She thinks if she tells us to eat bugs or ' cake ' for that matter we will while she dines on steak and lobster.
There's a bunch of contradictory stuff on the subject, excepting that I don't like discussing verses without context...I know that you know how that goes! I'll throw in this modern twist that I've touched on before regarding the modern struggle with unclean foods: There's a big "debate" in the Jewish and Muslim communities regarding the uncleanliness of GMO foods. Forces are trying to sell them that GMO food is fine, but The Faithful are not buying it. So the "debate" (as always) is really being created by those who have something to sell...or by those who are trying to dislodge them from their faith.
