I found his casting in movies like The Viking and Spartacus to be interesting, merely because he wasn't the rugged-appearing type. He and Poitier were brilliant together in The Defiant Ones.
The defiant ones was a great movie of its day ,think it was about breaking out of prison on the lines of the Shaw shank redemption ..it’s been a long long time trying to rack my brains. I wouldn’t have seen the Viking movie cause they aren’t on my favourites list. Now what’s the name of the lead actor in the Shawshank redemption? I like him as an actor as well he was ( is) a handsome man as well. Wouldn’t give 2 Bob for Tom Cruise
Spartacus came out at the theatre when I was 12 or 13, do mt friend and I saw it several times sinc it was the only thing to do. One of my favorite movies. Douglas was great in that movie.
Tom Cruise reminds me of someone whose career was created by others and he was just moved along in it, rather than self-earned. Or maybe he succeeded mainly based upon looks. Funny how two people can look at the same person, and one adores that person while the other finds him/her to be off-putting.
I’ve never heard allot of scandal about Tom Cruise but that’s prob all hidden by the Scientology mob …he pays very well apparently @John Brunner
That's an interesting point. He does seem to be publicly clean. I used to work for a bunch of Scientologists back in the 80s/90s. I was trying to find my posts about them to link to here, but can't right now.
Mitchum was friends with our neighbors across the street and he'd turn around in our driveway sometimes and chat for a minute with my father, who was usually sitting on the front porch. Lots of celebrities and politicians had homes or friends in Dorchester County, Maryland. There was good duck hunting and it was close to D.C. I was about 8 when I saw Burl Ives, who later became one of my favorite people, in the Acme store. Nobody pestered them for autographs or suchlike and I think they appreciated that. I think I could have been a famous movie star ... if I had been an actor ... and was good-looking ... and talented ... and had been in a movie... and slept with the right people. It turns out that the only place I'm famous is SeniorsOnlyClub. Heavy sigh.
Well Dwight too bad some of that great talent didn't rub off, huh? I've met some famous people too and it didn't rub off on me either,
