I found at least the three of them when I looked , one without the brown circle. One of them appears to be right beside a church, according to GE information.

    Fascinating.

I wonder why putting them on hills remediates the settling of fumes in the valleys...perhaps the fumes can dissipate more easily or they dissipate across a broader area.

What got you looking at this in the first place?

Exhaust fumes from a diesel engine are heavier than air. I found this out the hard way.

When I had insulation pumped into the walls of the house they used a diesel pump. The fumes came in an open window upstairs, and made me light-headed. They settled in the basement, where I had put the cat while it was going on. She was clearly affected for the rest of the day after that. I felt awful about it. Thought she'd be safe down there.

I remember hot humid summer days in the "hollows" of West Virginia. No air flows. I can imagine fumes collecting and staying there. If you put one of those pads in a valley the fumes might never get out. Ha!

My grandmother, uncle/aunt, and 2 cousins lived in Wick, WV, until I was a teenager. I spent a week there once as a kid. I found a very old picture of the town (no date), and was trying to match it, to test my memory.

I can't remember ANYTHING on this picture. However, my grandmother's house was the parsonage for a nearby church. There was a plaque "Built in 1939" on the church. Assuming there was an older church at the same site, her house would be at the bottom right-hand corner of the picture. You can just see the roof. I remember them talking about the Ankroms. There are 44 Ankroms buried in the church cemetery.

I pulled up Google Maps to see if I could see remnants of old roads/ buildings from satellite images, etc. Didn't help. Spotted the fracking pads and got sidetracked.

This all started because I ran across a picture of an old streetcar. That is another story and this is getting too long already.

Some of the most interesting things are found at the bottom of rabbit holes. ;)

My rabbit holes are more like ant farms. I'll never get finished, until I'm finished. :(

I'm the same way. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

Late night run to Kroger tonight. Noticed very bright moon. Turns out just another old supermoon.

Ins co. text msg said they talked to the body shop and extended rental car through Tuesday. Body shop didn't update today like they said they would. I don't like this.

The only good explanation is they farmed out the alignment to someplace else, and/or test driving it to Atlanta. They told me to have at least 1/2 tank of gas in it when I dropped it off. :p;)

Ordered the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 phone at the AT&T store today. It should arrive there August 26th. I want them to set it up. It fits in your pocket!!! If it lasts 2 years that will be fine, as long as they don't quit making them altogether.

    Purple: :)

I've had the S10e for over 3 years and still hate it. Should have gotten rid of it sooner.

The kudzu and English ivy are slowly choking out the Leyland cypress trees behind the houses on our block in town. These dense vines are probably ideal for open nesting birds. One day the state will come and cut them all down and plant something else. It may not be in my lifetime, or it may be next year.

If they replace them with grass, the view will be of the parking lot. I'm grateful for this parking lot. Much better than someone else's back yard. But I'd rather see birds in trees, especially in winter. I need to think about starting something else back there.

There are only 3 species of trees native to Georgia that turn red in the fall. One of them is sassafras.

    upload_2022-8-15_21-39-2.png

I've tried a few times to transplant sassafras trees in town but was never successful. I could never get one with a good root system. Then the goats ate them all down for 15 years. The birds eat the fruit. The fruit is only on female trees. I didn't know there were males and females. In fact, I didn't even know they had fruit.

I want to go soon and look for some in the woods. Probably mark them for now and dig them up in the winter. Spend more time collecting them this time. Keep them in pots until roots grow, if ever.

Another tree is red cedar (not a real cedar, but a juniper). They have berries birds can eat and dense limbs are especially popular for nesting. You can find thousands of small cedars for free any time, but you need females there also for berries.

A nursery in Ty Ty, Georgia, sells native sassafras trees. Ty Ty is near Tifton in Tift County.

They want Twenty dollars for a Twelve inch Tall Tree.

There are tons of junipers in my part of Virginia, and--as Nancy pointed out--people erroneously call them cedars.

I received a survey from the National Arbor Day Foundation. They were offering free trees & plants in exchange for my completed survey. I wonder if there are organizations (governmental or otherwise) that might have ways of supporting what you're wanting to do.
