This is a long-time running show, off and on, dating back to 1952, when it first aired. There have been numerous hosts, including Donny Osmond. Like last year, 2021, we have our DVR set to record each show each week. Last year, the show was taped in Sidney, Australia, but now it's being taped in Dublin, Ireland. By looking at the young people in the audience, you'd think it was being taped in NY, Chicago or Los Angeles. Guess contestants have to fly over to Ireland to be on the show. Many of the songs that are played by the Name That Tune band, conducted by the former/famous American Idol Judge and very talented, Randy Jackson, on piano are very easy for the young contestants to name, while others, definitely aren't. The ones that aren't, are generally from our (wife/I) day and age. Like: Donna Summer's- She Works Hard For The Money. Good, Bad and the Ugly movie theme. Oye Como Va by Santana and others. We don't know the New Age, like 2022, Pop/Rock/Hip Hop/Rap songs, but there are others from the 80's up to 2000 or so that we do know. And, when I say the audience is very young, I mean grandkids young!
I do best when the songs are Big Band tunes from the 40s. I struggle with anything past the 80s or 90s.
I remember that show. They had to bid on how many notes they needed to name the song ("I can name that tune in 3 notes!"). Do they still have to bid? Still remember the predecessor called Stop the Music. Bert Parks was the host.
Whilst reminiscing about the old Name That Tune show, Sing Along With Mitch came to mind then I started thinking about how a re-make of that show would be. Rap-along with Fitty Cent or Hip-Hop-a-long with Vanilla Ice. That little ball trying to keep up with the words……
We've also watched the show, Remember the Lyrics. In that show, a person really has to know the words to a song to win. One song I remember that part of the lyrics was "Second verse, same as the first", was Henry the Eighth I Am.
Well thank goodness it wasn't one of my most favorites.. Why do Hollyhoods keep messing up perfectly good songs? . Oh I know why,
