They tried to get us to sign up for that once but I think there was an added fee to do it. They also wanted us to agree to have our AC and water heater cut off during peak times to save a bit on the bill. Ain't no way, Jose. I won't be hot just to save a few meager dollars.

We don't pay any additional fees, they simply average the annual billing and divide the payments by 12 months. We've never been asked about having electricity or water cut off at peak times. I agree that I wouldn't go for that.

We lucked out with the cooler weather this summer. I finally have my hubby trained to open the upstairs windows at 9pm and close them at no later than 9am. I finished our basement long ago and it is too cold down there but we can put on a jacket to watch a movie.
I too worry about propane this winter. We have a paid up contract but the guy put in an 'in case I can't get the propane, it is not my fault' clause.

Not sure when they filled up their propane but a few months ago she was complaining.

Winter from Hell: Europe About to Descend into Chaos as Millions Could Die

London’s mayor sounds alarm over winter crisis
Millions of people in the UK could find themselves unable to put food on the table and heat their homes this coming winter if the government doesn’t intervene, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Saturday.

Russian gas transit to EU via Nord Stream to be halted – Gazprom
One of the pipelines is being taken down for repairs. One of the turbines is currently stranded in Germany due to sanctions, after returning from repair works in Canada.

Venezuela Stops Oil Shipments To Europe As Alternatives To Russian Energy Dry Up
Venezuela had restarted shipments to Europe after 2 years of US sanctions under a deal that allows them to trade oil for debt relief. However, the country’s government has now suspended those shipments, saying it is no longer interested in oil-for-debt deals and instead wants refined fuels from Italian and Spanish producers in exchange for crude.

Gas shortages, freezing temperatures, firewood hoarding: Just how bad could things get this winter?
Natural gas prices across Europe have quadrupled this year. In Germany, where almost a half of homes are heated with gas, people are turning to a more guaranteed energy source. Firewood sellers tell local media that they are barely coping with the demand. The country is also witnessing a rise in cases of wood theft.

US has doomed EU to hunger and cold – Russia
The United States has doomed the EU to hunger, cold and isolation by pressuring the bloc to cut its ties with Moscow, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Friday. He wrote on Telegram that Washington would “stop at nothing to cling to its power over the world as it throws under the bus the citizens’ welfare and the economies of European countries to achieve this end.”

    And many others...

It's as though all 1st world nations have turned on their own citizens...but that couldn't be. There is no rational reason for it, so it must be something else.

Shoot. I just finished the darn thistles and now have to start restacking and cutting wood! I keep thinking I am totally prepped and can just put my feet up. I am glad I don't have a real job.
Now, why again did we stop Trump's energy independence?

Because anything we extract within our shores (oil, rare earth minerals) harms Mother Earth more than having them extracted in another country and then shipped here for us to consume. Europe understand this. It's WAY more environmentally sound to have fuel extracted in South America and then shipped to Europe to be consumed than it is to produce it locally.

    Here...maybe this will help:

See? It's not so hard to understand. Totally different planets.

I just had a total epiphany!
Not unlike the Samoan debacle of making sure it doesn’t tip over, perhaps if we take too much oil from our side of the world, the imbalance would cause the whole world to lean toward the heavier side.
They’re secretly making us pump in rotation.

And…..perhaps I’ve been watching too much Tic-Tok on YouTube and the idiocy has rubbed off some how.

We have an election coming up so prices are likely to be down slightly.

Several stations were at $3.29 yesterday. The governor here is running for re-election so he's extended a State gas tax holiday, about 30 c/gal, through September. He's in a quandary. ;)

Adding the 30c I think it's about where it was when this started. But I'm not exactly sure when it started now.

I am not hurting with gas prices because I only drive to the store and to the post office both being the exact same distance depending which I drive to. Last year I was buying 5 dollars a month believe it or not. I never ran out of fuel and if I did need to drive extra distance I would add more fuel but as a rule I averaged that 5 dollars per month. Why would I want to not own this old 40 year old 3/4 ton truck ?
