I wonder what in watermelon would make your system react like that.

Watermelon gives lots of gas which I mustn't get..
I MUST stay away from certain foods because of my stomach condition after the operation a year ago..
    No carbonated drinks
No cabbage or the cabbage family
    No heavy spices
    No citrus drinks
    No watermelon
    No ice-cream
Just to name a few items that I cannot have but if I do, I will have loads and loads of gas.. Not very pleasant passing gas after a meal that I ate the wrong food, but sometimes I do it anyway..

Don’t you eat Broccoli Steve ?? That’s in-the cabbage family ..as is some greens grown as a “salad” green, so I make sure i only buy soft leaf lettuce seedlings ( to grow) in summer that’s picked / regrows rather than a a lettuce that forms a head.

I have diverticular disease so I try to ovoid the same “cabbage family” foods as they can cause major pain/ discomfort

Kate.. I tried broccoli steamed and it wasn't that bad but it certainly gave me some extra gas..
As far as lettuce goes, I only can eat the lettuce we grow in our garden which is a leaf lettuce..
I also tried cauliflower which also gave me gas..
Now, if I don't mind the gas, I can eat anything in the cabbage family..
Still NO carbonated drink, citrus drink, heavy spices, or ice-ream..
Now, they are pure poison to my stomach..

We went to Sudbury yesterday and ended up at Walmart where I bought a BBQ chicken..
That bird will feed us for two days, last night and again tonight...
I also bought a Caesar salad kit which was our veggie for the meal..

Last night for supper I made something a bit different...
    VEAL LIVER !!!
About once every month or so, I like to have some liver as it is good for me..
Veal liver is the best over beef liver.. Made it with a big ton of fried onions..
now, I like my liver very rare while my wife likes hers well done.. No problem, just make my slice thicker..
I ended up eating about 300g of liver which is a huge amount for me especially with the onions..
Mashed potatoes went well with that meal..
A pot of hot tea after was also very good..

I tried your fish cakes ( Pattie’s as we’d call them ) just with breadcrumbs/ egg / canned tuna but I found them a bit “heavy” Steve maybe I need to leave some of the juice as well ..I used panko crumbs

Kate... I honestly haven't made those tuna patties in a long time and I don't remember how I did them..
I often use canned salmon to make them and they turn out excellent..
Perhaps a bit less of the breadcrumbs might do it..
As long as they can form a patty in your hands, they might be OK..
