Well that is just silly of them, especially now when anything goes. I have been saying Howdy for years here in Wisconsin. People may be confused but they never have a bad comeback.
Well, Mary, some people in different states have their own feelings about out-of-staters. When the bumper stickers, saying "I Love (a red heart, no the word) NY (or some other state) came out, there were those in So California that didn't like the "I (red hear) NY" and I actually heard some say "if you like NY so much, go back!". IOW, believe it or not, there are those in the "good old U.S. of A." that don't like out-of-staters at all. We are all suppose to get along in America, but that is/can be a crock.
I said "Bonjour" in Morocco once and got kicked in the knee. After that, I always said "Howdy" and everyone was delighted. Who'd a thunk?
