I was scanning the Healthline website for some medical advice and came across this gem:

Although clinical trials suggest that cranberries can’t treat or cure a UTI, cranberries may help prevent UTIs in people with vaginas with frequently recurring infections.

Great place to get medical advice, huh? And I wonder if that statement is factually accurate. do cranberries really help all people with vaginas, including those who had them surgically created? So I filled out their Contact Us form:

I go to your website often for medical information. I was reading the subject article looking for advice on UTIs and came across this line:

Although clinical trials suggest that cranberries can’t treat or cure a UTI, cranberries may help prevent UTIs in people with vaginas with frequently recurring infections.

I was curious as to whether or not that is a medically factual statement. Is there evidence that cranberries may have such a benefit even in people who were not born with vaginas but acquired them later in life?

I probably shouldn't have done it. But dammit, they're a medical website.

I'm sure you will get an answer as soon as they confer with this idiot state representative I recently ask a simple question.

I believe cranberries help prevent UTIs in both sexes regardless of vagina status.

I'm still having issues with my stuff and was reading about how effective vinegar is in preventing UTIs. The article recommended mixing vinegar with cranberry juice.

I wonder how the medical site is gonna answer my question, or if they'll just ignore me.

I guess it is possible that vinegar would acidify the urine. Cranberries were first thought to acidify the urine to prevent UTIs, but it was later found that tannin was the effective agent, so black tea would accomplish the same thing.

That's interesting. I like fresh-brewed tea, and have been looking for an excuse to stop my coffee consumption. I've been taking D-Mannose. I just need to find a way to halt the fetish the medical community has for shoving billable events up inside of me. I don't "get" UTIs...doctors keep giving them to me.

I take cranberry capsules twice a day to try and help prevent UTI's, as well as d-mannose, and a good probiotic.

Do you have an urethra? Well, then, cranberry juice will cleanse you as well. LOL

I like cranberry juice as long as too much sugar isn't added to it, and it has a long history of being considered helpful in the avoidance of urinary difficulties.

I used to like vodka and cranberry juice. I don't know about the health benefits of that, but it did improve my mood.

I assume when everyone says "Cranberry Juice,"they mean the "cocktail" blend of cranberry & apple. That's all I could find...there is no 100% cranberry juice. I went to my urologist today and they said "If you don't have a fever you don't have an infection, so don't come to us for help when you're hurting unless you're sweating, too." I asked by how many days does the onset of fever preceded kidney damage, and all I got was a blank stare. (I'm putting together another "I'm still on my own" screed for my urodynamics thread.) So I'm now on an Infection Avoidance mission.
