That's legal in Maine, as long as you're over 21 or in the military.

Where do you live that it's illegal to have a loaded gun in the car? I don't think Constitutional Carry really puts on that restriction. Virginia has a county-by-county restriction on carrying loaded long guns in your car, but that's only during hunting seasons [supposedly] in order to prevent people from hunting from inside their vehicles.

Yeah, Maine has similar restrictions on long guns during hunting season, but the law is likely only going to be applied when in a hunting area. Similarly, there is a regulation against shining a spotlight over a field. I don't know what Maine's laws are pertaining to a loaded long gun in a vehicle, as I don't think that carrying a loaded rifle would be of much protection in a driving situation. I don't think that any of this would apply to shooting a raccoon on your property, however.

Back in the 60s we had a neighbor who was from a very rural area outside of DC. Her home place had no indoor plumbing at the time (or maybe there was a hand pump in the kitchen.) I may have mentioned them...her father was caretaker of Eric Sevareid's "country retreat." Her younger brother was shot & killed by game wardens when they caught him spotting deer, and he decided that his best defense was to open fire on them. He lost.

Wisconsin has all sorts of laws around Constitutional carry. My girlfriend and others keep me up on them. I used to just throw the gun in and jump in and drive over. It was in a case. But now I have to check stuff, have it where I can't reach it while driving....

Even if you're hunting raccoons (just to get back on-topic here)?

You would think that would be fine...or it could just be an excuse I use.
Why, no officer. I am not mad at any one, I am just going to shoot some raccoons at my other place....

As Ken said, not to drag things off topic...but for others reading this, Wisconsin is not Constitutional Carry. Here are Wisconsin handgun laws. Long guns (but not handguns) must be unloaded when in a vehicle, whether moving or stationary. Wisconsin hunting laws.

Raccoons need love too. Unless they eat my chickens then its every species for themselves. Of course, Opossums eat them as do fox, snakes and hawks I'd have to pretty much kill every creature in the forest.

We must be careful here with this MFGA talk. Talking about Making Farming Great Again by clearing the forest of chicken killers may be considered inciting violence. We must focus on the situation at hand and the dilemma Von is in. Von lives in a town that frowns on pistol-packing mamas. Her town even puts a no-no Nanette on things like electric fencing.

So what can Von do to stop all this raccoon taunting and violating her rights to peace and quiet without her violating the rights of the raccoons that supersede her human rights? That is the question here and the guys don't seem to be of much assistance. It looks as if a resolution is up to us girls, and we must help Von put together a plan without going in with guns blazing.

Let me propose for you ladies consideration that Von might be best to sweet talk the raccoons. Now don't laugh because after I read a book on crows, I changed my tactics from violent behavior, things like blasting them with water forced through a jet nozzle on my garden hose, shotgunning multiple BBs at them with a slingshot, and sometimes just plain old rock throwing, to sweet talking and it worked! The crows still are a nuisance but they no longer caw angrily at me. They keep their beaks zipped in my presence.

Isn't sweet talking what we ladies do best? Von has the advantage that she is naturally a sweetheart and with careful wording might find a resolution to this problem. Maybe establish no churring hours but allow them access across her property as long as they do it quietly. I think a peaceful settlement could be reached if Von mentioned to the pest that if she has to call her posse, things are going to get ugly. The girls from SOC are a bit trigger-happy and shoot first and answer questions later. They have no fear of lame city ordinances.

My advice to Von is to get this settled before they hibernate because when they emerge in the spring with their cute little babies, all will be lost.

I would be more concerned about their poop than their churring. It can be quite dangerous. She could fly them to Martha's Vineyard, or live trap them and give them a ride with a peanut butter sandwich put in the Mayor's area.
Is there a local newspaper or shopper that she could write a letter to the editor for help? I know here you can pay local trappers. I don't use them but thought about it for my muskrats. But then when the foxes had polished off that flock of chickens, they ate the muskrats!
Hey Von? can you get together with others in your neighborhood and hire someone to take care of the problem? Everyone makes garbage for the raccoons to go after, so, others in your area may throw in with you.
    Look up nuisance trappers.

One night in the front yard with Foxy and no more raccoon poop in our bird bath. This wired pup doesn't miss a thing.
Von maybe tie a couple dogs to the area where the raccoons are staying for the night?

Raccoon who pooped in our bird bath every night without fail, We got him on security camera.

This is why we relocated Rocky and Edwina from our property. They were crapping in our swimming pool. I can put up with "cute," but cleaning up racoon poop and sanitizing pool water gets old after a while. So y'all who think they are "cute," you can have them.
